While I would never get into a debate about who was the 'best' guitarist to play for Thin Lizzy, I would definitely agree that Robo was my favourite, especially in combination with Scott Gorham.
Sure, Gary Moore deserves all of the recognition he achieved in his lifetime, but I believe that Brian Robertson was every bit as good a guitarist, and definitely under appreciated.

Gary Moore was a more accomplished player than Robbo but Robbo for me was the best guitarist Lizzy had, he and Gorham were SUPERB together and it was the best Lizzy line up when Robbo was with them..After Robbo left Lizzy Gary Moore came in for the excellent Black Rose album and undoubtedly Moore is an exceptional player but on Black Rose he dominated too much over Gorham, whereas earlier Robbo and Gorham were perfect at sharing the duties..but i am certainly not putting Moore down here in anyway at all coz he was right up there as one of the all time great players, a stunning guitarist.

i think with Lizzy, Gary Moore was their most talented guitarist, but Moore wasn't in Lizzy's best ever line up, best line up was with Robbo and Scott..

Same with Motorhead, Robbo was their most talented guitarist, but he wasn't in the best ever line up, best line up was with Fast Eddie.

After Fast Eddie left Motorhead he started a band called Fastway..video clip of them here, video is tacky as hell and the vocalist can sling his hook he is just a f*cking poser...but Fast Eddie here on guitar and can anyone guess who the bass player is? it's Richard 'Charlie' McCracken who was the bass player in Rory Gallaghers early band 'Taste.'..McCracken just played on the one album with Fastway then he left.

There was an 80's horror movie and Fastway did some songs for it, I even think Gene Simmons was in it and got killed off..was a DJ or something? Was it Trick or Treat? Exercising the mind here..

With regards to Brian Robertson I read maybe a year ago or longer something about a rock magazine wanted to interview 'Robo' but didn't cos the reply came back that 'Brian has now retired from rock music' or words to that effect.

In the Thin Lizzy book by author Mark Putterford Brian mentions how he had to pull out on the eve of a US tour when one evening in the 'Speakeasy' a well known bar/restaurant & small music venue where all the rock musicians use to hangout during the late 1960s & most of the 1970s in the west end of London near Oxford Circus when one evening he went in for a meal (apparently a nice juicy steak!) when he saw a 'drunk' guy about to 'glass' Frankie Miller a fellow Scot and a very good R&B singer in his own right in his face with a broken glass when Robo stepped forward and raised his hand to protect Frankie and received a 'nasty cut' which required stitches!. Of course it goes without saying that 'Philo' (Phil Lynott) wasn't to pleased!!.

I recall back in the middle 1970s in the UK when 'Robo' was in Thin Lizzy appearing on the Jailbreak & Johnny the Fox albums that he was being proclaimed to be the best guitarist in the UK!!.

Yes that incident with Robbo getting his hand all cut up was the evening before Lizzy were due to fly out to The States for a major American Tour..That tour could have broken Lizzy into America big time but coz Robbo's hand was so badly damaged he couldn't play guitar and the tour was cancelled..Lynott was absolutely livid..i believe the injury to his hand cut tendons, nerves and an artery and doctors feared he would never be able to play guitar again..Robbo later said, 'I shouldn't have gone out to The Speakeasy, i should have been at home packing my bags/suitcase and getting ready for the airport.'

The statue of Lemmy in his home town of Burslem, UK is a really good resemblance..its very good...Some musicians statues have a good likeness but others don't..The statue of Phil Lynott in Dublin is good..There are 2 statues of Rory Gallagher, one of them in his hometown of Ballyshannon and the other in Belfast..The Ballyshannon statue is decent but the Belfast one is awful, he looks like Bonnie Raitt in that one, the sculptor has got it all wrong, has a telecaster slung over Rory's shoulder, SHOULD HAVE BEEN a strat...i can post videos on the forum but i am not so good at posting images...hi Dizbuster, if you could post an image of Lemmy's statue that would be great, cheers.
