2011 The Marshall Tucker Band's Doug Gray: Soul of the South
One of the 1970s finest southern rock bands, they formed in 1972 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The pastor at the church I sometimes go to, who has a great taste in music BTW, used to see a few of the MTB members hanging outside of the church when he was in Sunday School. Anyways, the band got their name from the inscription on the key of the person who rented the storage space that they did before them. marshall Tucker, he was a piano tuner who lived in and worked in the same town.
Through the 70s, The Marshall Tucker band released 8 albums in the seventies and another 5 from 1980 until 1983 when they split up. In 1980 the original bass player, Tommy Caldwell was killed in a car accident, and they replaced him with the bass player from the pre-MTB band, Toy Factory. The band split up in 1983.
Carolina Dreams, released in 1977, is my favorite album from them.
