2011 The Marshall Tucker Band's Doug Gray: Soul of the South

One of the 1970s finest southern rock bands, they formed in 1972 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The pastor at the church I sometimes go to, who has a great taste in music BTW, used to see a few of the MTB members hanging outside of the church when he was in Sunday School. Anyways, the band got their name from the inscription on the key of the person who rented the storage space that they did before them. marshall Tucker, he was a piano tuner who lived in and worked in the same town.

Through the 70s, The Marshall Tucker band released 8 albums in the seventies and another 5 from 1980 until 1983 when they split up. In 1980 the original bass player, Tommy Caldwell was killed in a car accident, and they replaced him with the bass player from the pre-MTB band, Toy Factory. The band split up in 1983.

Carolina Dreams, released in 1977, is my favorite album from them.

Heard It in a Love Song(From Carolina Dreams)
This Ol' Cowboy(From Where We All Belong)
Take the Highway(From first S/T)
Hillbilly Band(From first S/T)
and of course.. Can't You See(From Searchin' For A Rainbow)

^^That's my favorite record as well, I have all of their studio albums.

For those fans that know Charlie Daniels, but haven't checked out Marshall Tucker you are missing out on some great music.

And Vice Versa on the Charlie Daniels thing:heheh:

I'm in the process of getting all of the studio album, as with every other band I like:lmao:

The blend of Jazz, Country, Rock, and Flute:)tongue:) is perfect.. Jethro Tull didn't make the flute rock for me, it was MTB

^^Two completely different kinds of bands, but Jethro Tull was before MTB, as far as flute and rock music goes.

MTB never got as famous outside their hard core fan base as Charlie Daniels for whatever reason, which is too bad they are a great band.

I don't like one of the two..see if you can guess which one:heheh:

I think it depends where and when.. At the time, you'd be right, but now, they are almost completely equal in amount of play and fame IMO

They each have that one HUGE song, Can't You See and Devil Went Down To Georgia, they each have a sizable set of hardcore fans that know more, and those are the only two songs from those bands I'll ever hear on the radio..

For my personal taste, MTB has the edge, CDB is a great band, and the musicianship in both bands is phenomenal, also lots of the same jazz and country influences in each... Just like you have Skynyrd and Hatchet neck in neck, MTB and CDB is the equivalent..

That's how I view it at least:cheers:

Carolina Dreams on CD sounds excellent as well, they did the transfer perfectly, one of those old albums that sizzles on CD not just vinyl.
