From the 'Elvis' type lettering, to the New York Palladium photo- the iconic album London Calling released by The Clash forty years ago today!

Guy Stevens worked his Producers magic- as he had done with many before..noteables being Mott The Hoople.
This double album release confirmed that Punk had grown up.

It's funny. I loved early Clash -"White Man (In Hammersmith Palais)" remains one of my favourite singles of that era, as does "Tommy Gun". However, by the time of "London Calling" I'd lost all affection for the band and by "Sandinista!" I was well over them. I like "The Guns of Brixton" and "Train In Vain" but little else from LC. That's despite me being a huge Guy Stevens and Mott The Hoople fan from the pre-commercial success days! The intervening years haven't changed my mind and I'm still perplexed as to why LC is so feted.
