Saw Tech play this song live back in 2008.... One of the great musical experiences of my life. I'm about as unreligious as one can get, but when he told this story and said because of what he's done the devil follows him to each of his shows, I got chills and started looking around the audience.

I adore the sampling in rap, definitely one of my favorite aspects. You're taking something that's already great and completely reinventing it, giving it a new life. It's a lot like what Led Zeppelin did except that a lot of Zep's songs followed the same verse/chorus style as the originals whereas with rap samples they're being brought into a very different genre than they originally were.

As far as repetition in the beat goes, it's intentional, it's hypnotic. I've always preferred simple instrumentation and the level of hypnosis you can achieve with an electronic or digitized instrumentation can scarcely be equaled by organic work.
WOW!

That song was so good. I'm going to check more music about them, because I didn't even know they existed, but I was quite surprised with the story of that particular song.

I worked in a warehouse last summer and all they would ever play would be the rap/hiphop station. There was this song that stole Harry Belafonte's Day O Banana song. You know.... "Six Foot, seven foot, eight foot Bunch!!!"

And for minutes at a time it would repeat "ripe banana" over and over and over and over and over and over.................................................................................................................................................................................. until i was ready to F-ing lose it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People today must enjoy being numbed to death by repetitive nonsense.

I found it. Listen at your own peril.......

if you think thats hip hop you must be daft, THIS is hip hop, or rather, what the majority of it once was....

Whodini: One Love ( A Throw from way back ) - YouTube

2Pac - Keep Ya Head Up - YouTube

Heavy D & The Boyz - Mr. Big Stuff - YouTube

RUN-DMC - It's Tricky - YouTube

Gang Starr - Moment Of Truth - YouTube

now tell me people whats so overtly offensive or talentless about this music...

You don't really want to know now do you?

did you even bother to look at the links, take some time to educate yourself and maybe you'll catch somewhat of a second wind

better yet ill post some lyrics to one of these songs

keep your head up by 2pac, 1993

Some say the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice
I say the darker the flesh then the deeper the roots
I give a holler to my sisters on welfare
Tupac cares, and don't nobody else care
And uhh, I know they like to beat ya down a lot
When you come around the block brothas clown a lot
But please don't cry, dry your eyes, never let up
Forgive but don't forget, girl keep your head up
And when he tells you you ain't nuttin don't believe him
And if he can't learn to love you you should leave him
Cause sista you don't need him
And I ain't tryin to gas ya up, I just call em how I see em
You know it makes me unhappy (what's that)
When brothas make babies, and leave a young mother to be a pappy
And since we all came from a woman
Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman
I wonder why we take from our women
Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?
I think it's time to kill for our women
Time to heal our women, be real to our women
And if we don't we'll have a race of babies
That will hate the ladies, that make the babies
And since a man can't make one
He has no right to tell a woman when and where to create one
So will the real men get up
I know you're fed up ladies, but keep your head up

[Chorus]

Keep ya head up, oooo child things are gonna get easier
ooooo child things are gonna get brighter [2x]

[Verse Two:]

Aiyyo, I remember Marvin Gaye, used to sing ta me
He had me feelin like black was tha thing to be
And suddenly tha ghetto didn't seem so tough
And though we had it rough, we always had enough
I huffed and puffed about my curfew and broke the rules
Ran with the local crew, and had a smoke or two
And I realize momma really paid the price
She nearly gave her life, to raise me right
And all I had ta give her was my pipe dream
Of how I'd rock the mic, and make it to tha bright screen
[ From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/t/tupac-shakur-lyrics/keep-ya-head-up-lyrics.html]
I'm tryin to make a dollar out of fifteen cents
It's hard to be legit and still pay tha rent
And in the end it seems I'm headin for tha pen
I try and find my friends, but they're blowin in the wind
Last night my buddy lost his whole family
It's gonna take the man in me to conquer this insanity
It seems tha rain'll never let up
I try to keep my head up, and still keep from gettin wet up
You know it's funny when it rains it pours
They got money for wars, but can't feed the poor
Say there ain't no hope for the youth and the truth is
it ain't no hope for tha future
And then they wonder why we crazy
I blame my mother, for turning my brother into a crack baby
We ain't meant to survive, cause it's a setup
And even though you're fed up
Huh, ya got to keep your head up

[Chorus]

[Verse Three:]

And uhh
To all the ladies havin babies on they own
I know it's kinda rough and you're feelin all alone
Daddy's long gone and he left you by ya lonesome
Thank the Lord for my kids, even if nobody else want em
Cause I think we can make it, in fact, I'm sure
And if you fall, stand tall and comeback for more
Cause ain't nuttin worse than when your son
wants to kno why his daddy don't love him no mo'
You can't complain you was dealt this
hell of a hand without a man, feelin helpless
Because there's too many things for you to deal with
Dying inside, but outside you're looking fearless
While tears, is rollin down your cheeks
Ya steady hopin things don't all down this week
Cause if it did, you couldn't take it, and don't blame me
I was given this world I didn't make it
And now my son's getten older and older and cold
From havin the world on his shoulders
While the rich kids is drivin Benz
I'm still tryin to hold on to my survivin friends
And it's crazy, it seems it'll never let up, but
please... you got to keep your head up

still dead set on seeing hip hop the way you do?

Because now it's become a cRap appreciation thread with it's disciples trying to indoctrinate the 'poor uneducated'.

As for a response to the question before, like I said I listen to music to LISTEN to music. If a song has good lyrics that is very cool but won't really make me like it just for that fact. Some of the songs I adore have lyrics I do not at all agree with and some songs with great lyrics aren't pleasing to the ear.

Now I'm not saying the above examples are either good lyrically or even music for that matter and although I tried to labor through a few of those audio abortions life is too short to waste it trying to like something simply because everyone else seems to.

The only cRar I find even mildly entertaining is the stuff with funny words. Like when they are trying to act all tough or anti social or when it's just plain funny like baby got back. But even that is no more funny than any other quasi musical or non musical joke. Yadig?

I have seen no one trying to convert anyone here to becoming a fan of rap/hip-hop at all, but rather just trying to give new insight to a lot of people that have stopped by this thread to offer opinions but seem to know little or nothing on the subject. I commend anyone who has done it because on a classic rock forum it takes a lot of effort and courage to go against the norm and speak up for another genre that is typically frowned upon here. One thing we can all appreciate and remember when this thread gets a little hostile is the fact that each and every one of us initially signed up to be a member here because we all appreciate classic rock at least to some extent, but that doesn't mean all of us ONLY listen to classic rock and let's all remember that and keep this thread on track and on friendly terms. So far it's been way better than it was months ago before it went into edit lockdown mode. :grinthumb

Well said. However, cRap has been with us for close to 30 years now. I remember when a kid first brought it to school and I thought it was a lamer version of beat poetry. Fast forward 30 years and I still think the same thing. Anyone who thinks there is a single person in the developed world who has managed to remain cRap free is not thinking about it in terms of reality.
I think we've all been thoroughly indoctrinated in what is supposedly the best hip hop and all shades in between. Some of us don't like it and never will.

Please, get over that.

I do not and have never expected anyone here to be fully converted into a rap/hip-hop fan, therefore I have nothing to "get over", and please let's not talk like that to each other in here. We can have a respectful debate.
