Led Zeppelin II vs Machine Head

Although Machine Head is a great album and contains a few of my favorite Deep Purple songs, as an album Led Zeppelin II is the better.

LZ II by a hair. It's the best Zep album, while DP In Rock is the best Purple album IMO.

If it were Led Zeppelin I, it'd be my choice.

I'm having the same trouble as others deciding between the two, being the die hard Purple fan that I am, Purple breaks the tie.

I think both albums are superb, but I have to go for Machine Head.

Machine Head is my favourite Deep Purple album and is probably in my top 10 rock albums, whereas II is my third favourite Led Zeppelin album after IV and Physical Graffiti and would 'merely' be in my top 20. Also, Machine Head has one of the best side twos of any album - Smoke On The Water, Lazy, Space Truckin' form a superb trio of tracks to close the album.

Machine Head was quite possibly Deep Purple's 'finest studio' album with both In Rock & Burn albums running a close second.
