Re: KISS ~ Band of the Month ~ July 2010

Great job as usual Lynch!!! 'R & R Over' will always be my favorite Kiss album. It was my first Kiss record & for me it was all about the music. I didn't even know they had other albums out when my sister bought this for me & I was expecting "Beth" & "R & R All Nite" to be on it!!! I didn't even know about the make-up or who was in the band & looking at the song credits I thought Kiss was Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Peter Criss, & Sean Delaney!!! Of course within a week I found out about Ace being a member. As soon as "I Want You" kicked in I can't explain the rush of adrenaline that went through my body. That whole album kicked ass & I was so pumped up I grabbed the record & ran to my friend Spanky Madoo's house & he was so blown away that he went out & bought it right away. What a difference from by 45's of AM Radio's Top 20!

Shortly afterward Kiss was on Don Kirshner's Rock concert & performed "I Want You", "Love 'em Leave 'em", & "Hardluck Woman" & with the costumes, make-up, & Pyro I really became hooked & Kiss ruled my life back then & I was buying every magazine I could find with them in it. Spanky Madoo had HBO & back then they played a concert from Japan(It's on the Kissology DVD set) & all I can say is WOW!!! (I guess I know what I'll be watching this morning!!)

Re: Rock and Roll Over Tour

Other notable info from this album and the subsequent tour. The band went to Japan for the first time and played 4 sold-out nights at the Budokan, breaking the record previously held by The Beatles.

I forgot to include that on the Love Gun Tour, Kiss went back to Japan and sold-out 5 shows at the Budokan, breaking their own record they had set on the previous tour.

:cheers2

Yeah, I've been trying to figure out how to insert something in this thread about Sean. He had his fingers in a LOT of stuff with Kiss that most people probably don't know about. He was a roadie, a song co-writer with Paul on a number of songs, was involved with helping the band choreograph some of the signature stage moves, etc.

After I get through all of the albums, I plan on doing a bio on each band member, separately, as well as key figures closely involved with the band along the way. I think that would be a good place to include Sean.

Awesome Lynch! I remember the Love Gun tour of Japan got the front cover of Rock Scene Magazine (I have one main scrap book missing & it's in that one)

My first vinyl bootleg was from the R & R Over tour. 'Kiss Takes Tokyo' & I didn't understand what bootlegs were but it was pretty cool at the time

I Liked the version of Black Diamond the most where Paul rough's up the intro before going into KLASSIC " Black Diamond " mind.

Unfortunately he doesn't fo it very often these days though.

The debut album is incredible by KISS it's so strong and could have made up a live album just from that alone as it has the book ends Deuce as the opener and Black Diamond the ultimate set closer with plenty of goodies in the middle like Nothin to lose ( Love the early live version they did as you can see / hear on the first KISSOLOGY DVD set ), Strutter, Let me know, Cold gin, Fire House, 100,000 years. That's one hell of a rock concert early doors right there.
