Straight up Kiss are side by side with Queen as my favourite bands. I discovered Kiss first thanks to Ace’s solo album, I bought Double Platinum next and from there I HAD to get the catalogue. Originally as a a kid in ,78/‘79 I swore Kiss could do no wrong, but as I grew older I became more objective.

Much like most bands/artists, if it hadn’t been for the advent of the internet we’d have heard very little about the inner turmoil and struggles within the band and I truly miss when there was a real mystique around music and entertainment. Sadly we are now all privvy to the truth and that soils one’s opinions deeply.

I started off an Ace and Peter fan and I remain that way today. Still I have massive respect for Gene and his eclectic solo work and his incredible drive to make his mother proud after what she went through. Gene is a true example of the American Dream.

As for Paul, well looking back I realise he was a great frontman, not a great musician and as shallow as a puddle. But he is proof that an incredibly difficult disability can be overcome and frankly his vocal performance on MTV unplugged proves he could be a great singer.
At the end of the day, that incredible mystique they held during the original make up years and their party rock songs deserve far more acclaim than they ever got.

I was lucky to see them when I was around 15/16 with Eric Carr on the Unmasked tour, saw them and got to shake Ace’s hand on the reunion tour and finally once more about 8 years ago, where I kind of enjoyed the show but Paul’s voice was gone and as for Tommy I’ll never accept him as anything more than a roadie who got to fill in for his hero. (Frankly he was god awful in Black n Blue) but at least I saw the show one last time.

For me the best parts of Kiss- Ace, Peter, Gene, Eric Carr, Eric Singer Mark St John, Vinnie Cusano (Songwriting only) and the fantastic and under rated Bruce Kulick!

I will love them until I die, warts and all!

Awesome post X2112! Kiss isn't anywhere near my favorite band, but I've been a fan of theirs longer than any other band.

As far as Tommy goes, I actually last saw Kiss in 1998. After seeing them in '96 and '97, I walked out of the '98 show and told my wife that I was done seeing them live unless they gave me a reason (new material) to. I literally felt ripped off as I thought I saw the same show three years in a row. I was kind of pissed, actually.

I know they would release two albums with Tommy. One I thought was ok, the other wasn't, and I can't remember which is which. lol

But I love their whole back catalog. My first time seeing them was the Asylum tour. I thought their best tour was the Revenge tour. Actually, the Revenge club tour was pretty freaking awesome too.
