Kansas is a fantastic band.
They must be.
They overcame these hairdos.
You just know that the music had to be absolutely fantastic.
Simple deductive reasoning.

I'd certainly place "Wayward Son" among the very most essential classic rock radio staples ever.Quite brilliantly conceived and executed. Was the lead guitarist here involved with any other notable bands?................

What's the top wood on the Dust in the Wind acoustic? It sounds a little like cedar. But I'm probably imagining it.

One of my favorite bands....
I have never actually made a favorite bands list, but Kansas would be up there on my list. I saw them twice in concert…same tour for Point of Know Return…once in Cincinnati & once in Dayton 1977 & 1978

Like you have only recently begun to pay attention to Kansas, I actually see them as a fusion of Rush and Styx with maybe a hint of Uriah Heep.

It’s kind of crazy, to look at them they seem like they should be southern rock but the intricacies of the songs is just mind blowing, especially considering 6 musicians had to be in perfect sync.

The inclusion of violin is as iconic as Ian Anderson’s flute in Tull. It stuns me that this band were never more highly rated, their ability to seamlessly go from shorter rock/boogie songs to epic prog masterpieces is insane.

I am currently poised to purchase 4 of their albums on vinyl. At the moment I only have Two For The Show, Song For America and Audio Visions. Can’t wait to get all the pre ‘78 LPs and indulge.

Just heads up but the redirect in the the other Kansas thread doesnt work for me...I found this by forum search.
Never had the chance to see them live.....love their first 5 lps...I also have Monolith which is decent.
I have listened to Somewhere To Elsewhere (2000), Prelude Impicit (2016), and Absence to Elsewhere (2020) the most recent ones....and for me they are all pretty good.....but they often lack that early classic sound but are all still good prog rock imho.
from Prelude Implicit....Voyage of Eight Eighteen This one has some of that classic Kerry Livgren sound to me.....but needs Walsh on vocals.
