Time for my personal favorite Judas Priest album, similar to some other bands in my collection I didn't start at the beginning, in this case "Hell Bent For Leather" was my entry to Priest. I bought the vinyl album when it came out in 1979, and I had never heard anything quite like it. Unlike Stained Glass, Priest was a little mellower on this one, still some gut wrenching metal of course but showed the softer side as well, just listen to Before the Dawn if you don't believe me.
This record is in my top 50 all time pantheon of music, I still love it as much now as the day I bought it. Some of you bought the same album but it was called "The Killing Machine" in North America, I have no idea why mine was different, the track list was identical.
Hell Bent For Leather was the first Judas Priest album I bought too and it's still one of my faves. I recall buying it on cassette tape at a Sears near Detroit around 1983 for only about $5. It was called Hell Bent For Leather too.
Absolutley love "Before the Dawn" LG.. JP is so excellent and those types of Ballads. They have it down and in concert.. Holy Crap!! When they did "Beyond The Realms of Death" A huge lighted star slowly came down over the stage.. It was like a moment in time I will never forget..
At the time we were aloud to camp out outside the arena where the concert was going to be in order to buy tickets.. Imagine that.. Judas Priest fans all together all night long.. No cops called.. Nobody got out of control.. It was just awesome.. Every once in awhile you would hear some dude yell out WE ARE GOING TO SEE.... JUDAS PRIEST!! YA BABY!! and everybody would laugh and clap.. Good times man..
