Re: The Official Johnny Cash Thread

I have grown to like Johnny Cash more and more as I get older. They had an old Christmas special of his on last week on one of my specialty channels and I ended up watching it and time tripping into the past.

Re: The Official Johnny Cash Thread

I'm a HUGE fan of ''The Man In Black'' Johnny Cash, but didn't care for ''Hurt'' or even his cover of Tom Petty. (and I'm a huge Petty fan, also.) I really love the classic years of Sun Records in the 50's and his 60's and 70's catalogue the best. I have most of his albums, too many too count.

Here's four classics from Johnny...

1957- Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Two - "Get Rhythm"

You're The Nearest Thing To Heaven (1958)

''I Still Miss Someone'' with Joni Mitchell 1969-70?

There You Go (1975)

^^Johnny's cover of Hurt is one of a handful of songs I've listened to over the years that has the power to bring a tear to my eye and a lump in my throat. Also one of the best videos I have ever seen, it's like he was saying goodbye and Johnny was nothing if not real.

Don't think we'll see another like him in my lifetime for sure.

Agreed, I wish I could have seen him live, the prison concerts are some of my fave live albums of all time.

Yeah, Live At Folsom Prison and San Quentin are essential Johnny Cash albums.

Here's one from the Folsom Prison album...

This one cause a big ol' lump in the throat, for me...

Yeah.. I can sit and listen to some tracks from Mr Cash.. He was always straight-forward no frills musician... and you guys have post quite a bit of videos/tracks of his that I like... so no need to repost it again... I like "The Man Comes Around"... but its funny I alway thought that somebody like Clapton would cover his songs... I guess Ive never picked up on anybody outside the country scene to be playing any of them. Im sure somebody will post a few that is out there...

But anybody out there Im trying to track down... which I "think" is a Johnny Cash track... but I cant seem to find it... it was sort of a parody... it was about somebody singing about being eating alive by a snake... this was around 72 - 74 or alittle before... am I close to this or completely way off... if it is or not and know of this track... post the link from allmusic.com so I can hear it...
