I didn't see a Coltrane thread, unless I missed it, so I figured I'd start one.

Any Coltrane fans out there?

To kick things off:

3 Jazz greats on one stage, Coltrane, Oscar Petersen and Stan Getz.

Not a massive jazz fan but I do dabble in it occasionally TH, I know Coltrane by his reputation but don't have any of his albums.

Give me your all time favorite album of his and I'll check it out.

Ok, I'll narrow it down to two.

Blue Train

My Favorite Things

I would pick those two albums as starters. There are other Coltrane records that I love even more but those two are a nice mix of high energy & low tempo Coltrane.

I love Coltrane's music from the 1960's. It is very fiery and intense but I know that it doesn't go over well with everybody's musical sensibilities.

If interested, Meditations is a great album from that period.

It is music from another stratosphere.

This is my favorite Coltrane album :

Great album.

Even though he is well known for all the high octane Bop and freewheeling music that he made in the 60's, Coltrane also showed that he could play ballads beautifully and move people with that style of playing as well.

The consumate artist.
