After getting interested in Jimi since about 1980 at first through his official albums and also his 1970s posthumous albums and then subsequently through many previously unreleased recordings that were released from the 1980s onwards and also from reading a number of books on his life and death over the same time period my take on Jimi's death was that he 'accidently overdosed' at a private party at around 3:00am in the Marble Arch area of central London on Friday September 18th 1970 and was then driven back to the Samarkand hotel in the Notting Hill area of west London by his German girlfriend Monika Danneman where he subsequently died at around 4:00am.
An interesting book dealing with Jimi's final 3 weeks from when he arrived in the UK to play the Isle of Wight festival until his last days and hours in London called JIMI HENDRIX THE FINAL DAYS by Tony Brown published in 1997 is worth trying to find a copy if anyone is interested in Jimi's final days.
