A thread to represent one of the MOST IMPORTANT bands on the San Francisco scene!! When one speaks of the Psychedelic SanFrancisco scene in the 60's, you can bet that 9 times out of 10 these cats are brought up.

The band had gone through numerous line up changes as well as two more band name changes. Jefferson Starship and Starship...go ahead and talk about all of it...but in the end...it's one band flying high after all these years, influencing musician's and younger rock fans alike

Cheers to Grace Slick, Paul Kantor, Marty Balin and a very long history!!

I'm ready to take that trip down the rabbit hole....R U With Me??

Re: Jefferson Airplane (Starship & Beyond)

This group was great during the 60's.. Or I should say that is when I liked them the most..
I cracked up even though it was pretty pathetic when they toured over in Germany and Grace was so smashed that she totally made a fool of herself..:heheh:
It just reminded me of how so many musicians were tanked out of their minds back in those days..
But White Rabbit and Don't You Want Somebody to Love are my favorites..
When they went Starship is when I gave up on them..
It was just preppy music to me at that point..

I rarely spin JA any more MP.. I have at least 6 of their albums.. But don't have that one that I can think of.. Once again the Built this city wasn't my kind of music and still isn't.. Cheesy in my book..:bonk:

Re: Jefferson Airplane (Starship & Beyond)

stellar band. Jefferson Airplane had a great run of albums all with many classic songs:
Surrealistic Pillow
After Bathing at Baxter's-my favorite
Crown of Creation
Bless Its Pointed Little Head-if not this live album one of the boots from this era.
Volunteers

After that they had some good songs but not complete albums and the solo projects were better like
Blows Against the Empire and Sunfighter
Any of the Hot Tuna albums esp. Burgers

In regards to Starship:
Dragon Fly and Red Octopus are good albums

I like Red Octopus and I have Surrealistic Pillow but was never a big follower of this band.

Props to Grace Slick though, one of the legendary women in the early days of rock and roll.

Re: Jefferson Airplane (Starship & Beyond)

Jefferson Airplane, the most underrated and under appreciated band in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. If it wasn't for two hits ''White Rabbit'' and ''Somebody To Love, they sadly would probably fall into forgotten obscure bands of the 60's, nowadays. They weren't two hit wonders, imo.

It's a shame, how forgotten they are.

I'll be back with more thoughts on one of my favorite 60's band.

But for us freaked out freaks JA were A BAND OF QUALITY....who cares how many records they didn't sell, right??!:). My fave JA song is "Today" (written by Marty Balin) and majestically sung by Grace:)
