I have a friend who was over there a couple years ago at his house, and my friend
told me he actually has a band and records all the time,.

So my best guess is that, much like George Harrison later in his life, he loves
to record, but cares not one bit for having a career in the traditional sense.
He writes, he records, he enjoys himself, when Zoom didint sell, he thought
hey F^c^ that, I'll be like George and record for my own enjoyment.

What other explanation could there be? Maybe he makes his money off of
the old ELO catalogue and the albums he produces for people like Tom Petty
maybe he retired the ELO suit

^^If he invested his money properly I'm sure he doesn't have to do anything but enjoy himself, ELO would have made him a wealthy man easily.

You might be right, but there are thousands of fans who would snap up anything he releases, and don't care what the critics say, although if his pride was hurt by the disappointing performance of Zoom that could be what's holding him back.
