Just bought an album from these guys because I saw Tim McIlrath wearing a shirt of theirs, and I'm really impressed.

Bio/information: Jawbreaker is an alternative rock band from New York City that existed from 1986 to 1996. They were considered part of the "emo" movement, although this was a time when emo music meant post-hardcore with confessional lyrics and still a pair of balls... think Fugazi and Sunny Day Real Estate. The album I bought of theirs is called "Dear You", and my favorite song on it is "Accident Prone". They seem to prefer dark lyrical themes, which they present in front of a background of driving, heavily distorted guitars in a low-fi recording format. They certainly do rock, and they certainly do pump a lot of emotion into their rocking. They broke up in 1996 due to internal struggle and fading audience. I know Kurt Cobain and Tim McIlrath are fans of their music, although I havent heard much about them elsewhere. I suppose they were more influential than they were popular.
(It seems that "Dear You" is considered the album where they lost their audience because it was a bit of a shift in style, but I'm really enjoying this album. It's a bit more alternative rock than it is punk. If I have one complaint, it's the singer's fake accent... but I can look past that, because it's really quality music with great lyrics.)
Discography:
Unfun 1990
Bivouak 1992
24 Hour Revenge Therapy 1994
Dear You 1996
Members:
Blake Schwarzenbach (vocalist/guitarist)
Chris Bauermeister (bass guitarist)
Adam Pfahler (drummer)

Anyone else a fan? I'm a sucker for that dark self-loathing 90's rock, I must admit... it comes in many forms.
