I remember a school friend being a big fan of Jack the Lad. When JTL came to the local club, I had agreed to meet a different group of friends, but they didn't turn up. Instead, I latched on to the JTL fan's group of friends, among whom there was a conspiracy to slip laxative into his drinks. Before long he was running to the toilet faster than Usain Bolt. I never really understood what was behind this (no pun intended) strange joke and always felt guilty at drifting into the events. Now I see it as just plain bullying. I hope he recovered sufficiently by the end of the support act and his enjoyment of Jack the Lad wasn't spoiled too much. I could write a book on the stupid things I did when I was young.
