An iconic band, just say the name "Maiden" and almost everyone in the world knows who you are talking about. Formed in the late 70's, they represent along with Judas Priest the two Juggernauts of the NWOBHM, and have been a force in Heavy Metal for over 30 years now.

The first record I bought was "The Number of the Beast", and this was the album featuring Bruce Dickinson on vocals he replaced Paul Di'Anno and became the signature voice of Maiden for the rest of their career. I just enjoy the energy and hard driving style of their music, and they are a worldwide phenomenon. Looking back they never got much attention in the U.S. when they were starting out, when the American press saw "Eddie" for the first time they concluded this was a group of British Satanist seeking to corrupt the youth of their country...:lmao:

Re: Iron Maiden

THE number one Metal band in the world, they're still packin in 100,000's of people in stadiums around the world. David Murray and company have done a fkn great job of staying together and making awesome music to this day.
I actually prefer the LP's from Somewhere n Time era to now. Not even Preist, another favorite, can do what Maiden has done "worldwide".

Re: Iron Maiden

Have to agree with you about Maiden still being a force in music, one of those rare bands that holds it together for decades, and still as you said makes good music.

Judas Priest is coming soon...another epic band.:D

Re: Iron Maiden

Paul Di'Anno and Rob Halford were the first to sport leather on stage. They set the trend for the "metal" look of studded leather on stage.

Maiden is epic when it comes to the roots of metal.

My favorite songs:

The Trooper

Fear of the Dark

Aces High

Re: Iron Maiden

I'm not much of a Metalhead in general ( just bits and pieces, songs here and there), but Iron Maiden is the Metal band I've listened to most over the years. The first album I heard was Piece Of Mind and it's still my favorite. I got to see them a few years ago and they put on a super-high energy show , along with being probably the loudest concert I ever saw. I've also had the pleasure of playing The Trooper in a couple of cover bands and it's always a crowd pleaser...but it's a mother****er to play on bass - Steve Harris is no chump, that's for sure. Some other favorites of mine are Flight Of Icarus, Die With Your Boots On, Where Eagles Dare ( based on a great book and movie! ), Revelations, Wrathchild, Two Minutes To Midnight, Phantom Of The Opera, Aces High...

Re: Iron Maiden

I always liked Maiden & the first time I seen them they opened for Priest on their 'Number of the Beast' tour which was a great show all around. I seen them 2 more times in the mid 80's & then in Cleveland 2003 with Dio & Motorhead. One of my favorite records I bought by them was the Trooper EP which I found in this cool as hell little Metal record shop in Montreal in the mid 80's while I was in Montreal for a Sabres/Habs game.Anyway, I loved the EP because of the Trooper cover which I had never seen & for their cover version of Tull's "Crosseyed Mary" which is still one of my favorite covers.
'Piece of Mind' is my favorite album & my favorite Maiden song of all-time is "22 Arcacia Avenue".

Re: Iron Maiden

Nice to see some fans of this band. I am not a "Metalhead", per se, but I do have an extensive collection of old and new bands. But not the Black/Death/Doom/Porn/Grindcore/Crustcore/Metalcore/Folkcore varieties as a rule. Only a couple of bands from that whole smorgasbord of sub-genres in the library.

Here's the First Maiden album, I don't listen to it very often, but I had to have it I enjoy following a band from the very beginning if I really like them. Sometimes as they go forward I will skip an album or two depending if they are just lacking the spark or below the expectations I have.

Prowler.

Released in 1980, and here's Eddie.:grinthumb

Re: Iron Maiden

I watched Iron Maiden on Palladia last night. It was the Flight 666 show.
Live footage of their "Somewhere Back in Time" tour. Kickass tour!!!

This is a picture of the plane they flew around in for that tour, they called it "Ed Force One":
