Shock horror...even I own a copy of INTERPOLs debut "turn on the bright lights"....have to thank my son for that. Mind you I do like bands with "broody vocal style" [ its the goth in me ]. INTERPOL often get confused with EDITORS another fine band of similar style, both with as you say JOY DIVISION influences.
A band I highly regard , IKON from Australia have followed this style for many many years.....but have been put in the gothic/darkwave scene, Please, please check them out...they are great
INTERPOL are getting a bit of airplay on the radio stations here in the UK , good to see a thread on CRF for this band....
I checked em out... I've been listening to a few IKON songs and I like em, they're pretty cool. I Love the voice
I listen to the Editors as well. Other bands that I've found to be sort of similar are The Strokes, The National, Foals, The Cinematics and White Lies.
love them. IMHO, their best album is their first, Turn on your Bright Lights. At the time of its release it was really a true feeling of what was going on in Brooklyn and the lower east side of NYC. They get pciked on for being a Joy Division knockoff but I think they took that element and changed it to create a new sound.
Their first three albums are all great and the new one is good. Saw them twice recently including a few nights ago (see sig for picture) and really liked the new additions. Carlos, the bass player left the band so they added a new bass player David Pajo (formerly of Slint) and Brandon Curtis of the Secret Machines on keyboards and vocals for the tour. He adds a nice element to Interpol's overall sound.
I went to see the show they did at RCMH, NYC on the 17th and it was incredible, the new additions performed better than I expected and I freaking loved the encore (The Lighthouse, The New Not Even Jail, Slow Hands). I had been crossing my fingers all night to hear The Lighthouse - it's such a great song that gives you imagery like no other, it's one of my top favorites!
I was hoping they'd play No I In Threesome, Wrecking Ball and Pace is the Trick but they only played like a couple from Our Love to Admire, which were The Heinrich Maneuver and Rest My Chemistry.
