Harvey Mandel looked to becoming a guitar legend, even auditioning for the Stones and being on 2 tracks on Black and Blue, was in Canned Heat at Woodstock and played with John Mayall. Made 6 good solo records and was doing 2 handed tapping before EVH but just dropped off the radar in 75 till 93 and never have a major contract.

Excellent player....I have Shangrenade on original vinyl...been looking for Cristo Redentor(his first), Baby Batter, and The Snake when I visit record shops but they have not showed up. I hear all his early ones are good.
Yes...he played on Memory Motel and Hot Stuff from Black and Blue by the Stones. Definitely Taylors equal....one wonders why he didn do more with the Stones.

Canned Heat-Lets Work Together
Mandel -lead guitar, Alan Wilson -slide guitar

I read a Ritchie Blackmore interview of Deep Purple & Rainbow fame about 6-months ago saying that he once saw Harvey Mandel performing on stage back in 1968 when the original Deep Purple Mk-1 was touring the US and Harvey was doin the 'double handed neck tapping' on the guitar and apparently Ritchie and a few other were laughing at Harvey doin it and saying to each other doesn't he know how to play a guitar??.

Yeah they all had nicknames in Canned Heat with Harvey being known as 'the snake' with the others being known as the bear, the owl and the mole although Henry Vestine on guitar was known as 'sunflower' from memory??
