Very sad to hear of George Kooymans guitarist with the Dutch rock band Golden Earring has passed away at the age of 77. The band formed way back in the early 1960s and to British guy's of my age 68 Golden Earring's RADAR LOVE released in 1973 is a 1970s 'rock classic' and was a big hit single in the UK back in 1973 and also the Moontan album from 1973 from which Radar Love was lifted is well worth checking out especially if you like '1970s rock' and also the band had another big hit single in the early 1980s called TWILIGHT ZONE.

RIP George

I have been watching a live DVD of Golden Earring that I bought about 12-years ago in the old HMV Oxford street playing the Rockpalast at Kohn in (west) Germany back in June 1983 in honor of George and the boyz in the band and it must be the whole set cos it lasts for around 110 minutes and is actually 'very watchable and enjoyable' to watch with all the boyz all giving it 100% with them all 'dripping sweat' from all over and even George has 'sweat dripping from his fingers' as he plays!!. Barry Hay the vocalist who also plays 2nd guitar on some numbers and even a 'dulcimer guitar' on one number is or was a very good singer and musician plus the bass player held the bottom down nicely.

Some favourite tracks off Golden Earring albums-

Radar Love
Vanilla Queen
Candy's Gone Bad
Quiet Eyes
Twilight Zone
Just Like Vince Taylor
and several others..

I just read a quote from Steve Harris of Iron Maiden saying Golden Earring was one of his favourite bands and that he saw them play live at the Rainbow at Finsbury Park in north London back in 1973 and they were unbelievable!!,

nice tribute post E-Z...I've been playing 6 of their vinyl albums over two days....Radar Love overshadowed the 'real stuff'.
Cut album I really liked..and Bloody Buccaneers is fantastic whilst driving.
This brings back memories of beer, pool, and music pubs.

Twilight Zone.

With regards to Radar Love in particular a album track lifted off the Moontan album released in 1973 that track musta been edited down somewhat to a more acceptable running time for a single release cos it has a fairly long intro for starters and maybe the middle section was edited as well, anyway I haven't heard the Radar Love single version since 1973?.

About 12 or 13 years ago all the Golden Earring cd albums were rereleased on the Red Bullet record label cos I remember seeing them in the cd racks in the old HMV store in Oxford street and in fact I bought the live double album from 1977 plus a 'best of' Golden Earring cd as well.
