Something that should be considered which is Alex never stepped under a spotlight on stage and did a free style solo like a typical rock star and always kept his works within the structure of the actual songs, and considering that he managed to do quite a bit of work in many of his "solos' without stepping out of bounds so to speak imho makes him an extraordinary guitarist which again is because he's able to be so structured and in control while balancing creativity and rawness.

I don't think Alex is a great solo guitarist most of the time. He has his big moments (e.g. Xanadu solo, 2112 solo, Finding My Way solo) but I went with EVH.

EVH definitely. Lifeson is a great and underrated guitar player but Eddie's Eruption is a milestone and one of the most influential instrumentals in rock.

Eruption. I much prefer Alex's playing but as for these two pieces I have to go with Eruption. Had you said La Villa, Farewell to Kings, The Necromancer....
