I believe the song has been overplayed as well. Does it make it any less powerful? I guess it does for some listeners. I don't listen to music much anymore on the radio (internet stream or otherwise).
For me, this song is still just as powerful as the first time I heard it.***:
The song, which I think is one of the most memorable songs ever made, is more powerful to me now, since I understand better what it's all about.
I first heard it in the late 70's, when I first started listening to music. I was about 7 or 8, and didn't have the knowledge of music I do now, so it was just a cool song to me.
A testament to great songwriting.
Another great song of Don's is Vincent (Starry Starry Night), which I didn't hear until Chloe Agnew's version. Hers is a lot different of course, but still an amazing song.
