Deep Purple guitarist Steve Morse said the band was going to record what will be its 21st studio album during 2019, and hinted at the possibility of U.S. tour dates.

Their last LP was 2017’s Infinite, which had been speculated to be their final release because the associated tour was titled the Long Goodbye. Morse is also continuing work with prog band Flying Colors, he told Andertons Music Co. in a video interview at this year’s NAMM music convention in Anaheim, Calif.

“We’re starting two albums – one with Flying Colors and one with Deep Purple,” he said. “And I know there’s more Deep Purple gigs that they haven’t announced yet, so don’t tell them that I told you so. … This year it might be U.S., but there’s nothing booked for sure. I’m running on rumor power.”
In a previous interview, Morse predicted his colleagues would keep working even after the band finally ended its career. “I also plan to stay in music, but not so actively as now,” he said. “But you do realize that, when the music for so many years is the most important place in your life, [it’s] impossible in one day to abandon it. In general, I know that the guys are not going to retire. They would rather die onstage than in bed.”

Singer Ian Gillan said last year that while the band was definitely moving toward retirement, it still had some time remaining. “We’re so close to the end now – within a year or two, three, four. Who knows? But it’s close,” he reported.

Bassist Roger Glover admitted he was “dreading” the band’s end in a separate interview. “[Deep Purple] has been such a presence in our lives for 50 years that none of us want it to end, but the realization is there that sooner or later we are going to have to stop," he reflected. "I’d love to go on and make another album. Emotionally, we’re not ready to stop, so we could carry on for another four or five years.”

I give these guys a lot of credit and I wish them well out there, even though I quit listening after old Blackers flaked off.

Meh. I own the vast majority of their stuff, but I have to say that I haven't given a crap about anything they've put out since Slaves and Masters.

If they want to tour, so be it (that's where the $ is anyway), but new music? Meh.

Deep Purple have a great discography Slave & Masters being one of the only albums I don't really care for. I will say that the Morse era took me some time to get into because it is different for sure. But after a bit of adjustment to their newer post Blackmore stuff it grew on me big time. And while they are no longer the Purple of the 70s they are IMO still a great band. They have definitely returned to the top of my hard rock heep and are now my favorite "modern" hard rock band along with the likes of BCC and the "modern" version of UFO .

    Looking forward to this.

I saw them on the SLAVES AND MASTERS UK tour at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1991.

Joe Lynn Turner was fronting the band after Gillan had been fired by Blackmore.

From what I remember reading in the UK music press at that time regarding the SLAVES AND MASTERS tour was that there was some comment about all the band members having a full head of 'exceptionally long hair' that in a number of cases reached halfway down there backs and this for guys aged at that time all in there mid to late 40s and them all having there own 'wig roadies' on tour along with the band to take care of there hair pieces!!.

I have the last Infinite Album. Some songs very good and some quite not so good. What I miss about Blackmore he knew how to serve the song and new how to put the sparkle and drama. Morse also has his particular talents, for me his best yet for Deep Purple was his live performance of Pictures Of Home in the Albert Hall (I was there!) the solo he produced was awesome and served the song so well but he never quite pruduced the same level in other material with DP. I still love Deep Purple and I think its because of Morse's personality that Deep Purple have lasted so long together as a group. Good luck to them with the new album and tours.:)
