Probably should have started a thread for this in particular, but does anyone have any suggestions to offer for someone who suffers from sleep paralysis and insomnia? Sleep paralysis is potentially avoidable by sleeping on my side and I have a few other reliable methods at my disposal. But my sleep schedule has been impenitent with me lately. I have Bipolar II and take lithium regularly so I am mostly stabilized. I still endure more depressive states and slight mania and recently it has been the former as it occurs more often and thus I am suffering now.

It's really rough to wake up to work at such an early hour with 2 or 3 hours of inconsistent sleep. Any advice is much appreciated. This is damn dreadful...

Do you get exercise? It's the only thing that helps me is exercise during the day then my mind feels less compressed at bed time. Don't have sleep paralysis but have been insomniac many times and it's usually lack of exercise or to much caffeine or both.

@Kui I get my recommended amount of weekly cardio and I do landscaping at least twice a week at 6 hours minimum for each session for a total of 12 hours... among other occasional things.

I managed to get 5 and a half hours of consistent sleep last night, actually. For me, that's really great. Rest of the work I do consists of being a desk jockey doing computer maintenance.

They prescribed some brand of zolpidem to me which gave me very few hours of extra sleep but was still restless and inconsistent even after proper usage for a month.

What about caffeine and sugar? I try to stay away after about 5pm.

I have one cup of joe in the morrow for the health factors and the slight boost.

No sugar. Only on special occasion...

@Cadleson how are the sleep problems going?

Do you have sleep apnea, by chance? Have you gone to a sleep study?

I work swing shift. My sleep schedule is nonexistent. Tonight is my last night shift. Saturday I start days for 3 weeks. Ive been on nights for 7 days now. Tonight I have to start switching my body back to days, that's when the adventure starts. Ive tried every sleep aid known to man, none works. What does work though is a double shot of Jack Daniels right before I turn in for the night.

We are dealing with insomnia with my son.
    Mixed results.
We are trying Melotonin of course.
Which didn't seem to work last night but my wife only gave him a small dose.
With him a big thing is his computer time.
His insomnia is directly related to how long he is online with friends after school.
It's really turned into an addiction thing and we are working through it.
He has suggested that we take away his computer.
Which I'm open to. Even though he has suggested that, if it's there he just can't stay off it.
I'm for limiting it but that would involve moving it somewhere out of his room.

I don't do so well myself.
My schedule has me leaving the house at 6AM for an hour long commute so that I can get back to pick up the kids by 6pm.
I wake up at around 4:30AM so I can have coffee and wake up for a while.
Try as I might by Friday I'm tweaking.
