?? How did I live through the entire 1970's without ever hearing of a band called Wigwam ??

I love the check 'em out/out-of-right-field selections you sometimes get in threads like this, so I will!

Be warned: They signed with Virgin, toured the UK with Gong and died a death. Allan Jones of Melody Maker loved them (he was famously assaulted by Tony Iommi), but Q magazine described them as art rock bollocks. There are two versions of the band: (i) the early highly-rated psychedelia version and (ii) the progressive band led by British ex-pat Jim Pembroke. I much prefer the later version or Jim Pembroke's solo material which is really the same as Wigwam.

No, I like it. Just wasn't expecting it to be your number one.

It's an old cliche to talk about listening to Radio Luxembourg 208 under the bedclothes, but I really did and I first heard Radar Love. It soon got airplay on the main stations and became a big hit, with the band appearing on the TV. I bought the album at HMV in Oxford Street, which was a very exotic shop with separate departments for cassettes and eight-track cartridges. I've still got the receipt! It is purple with a picture of Madame Tussaud on the back. Moontan does not have a bad track. The full version of Radar Love is even better the single and there are some very atmospheric songs like Candy's Going Bad and Vanilla Queen. My version has the amazing Are You Receiving Me? Words cannot descibe how I feel about this album - it's utterly fantastic. :heheh:

Things like this fascinate me, by that I mean the unearthing of old defunct bands from decades ago. Touring with Gong was probably what signed their career death warrant. I'll Wiki them, and then see if they're anywhere on YouTube. And how do you end up getting assaulted by Tony Iommi?...I can't think of a less threatening looking rock guitarist, what did he do, set Iommi's sleaze-ball porn-star style moustache on fire?
