I hesitate putting Calexico in the C&W forum, but I guess they fit here better than anywhere else. They include a variety of genres from old Tejano and Rockabilly to Jazz and Indie Rock.

Calexico is a Tucson, Arizona-based Americana / Alternative country band. The band's two main members, Joey Burns and John Convertino, first played together in Los Angeles as part of the group Giant Sand. They have recorded a number of albums on Quarterstick Records, while their 2005 EP In the Reins recorded with Iron & Wine has reached the Billboard 200 album charts. Their musical style is influenced by traditional Latin sounds of mariachi / conjunto / cumbia / Tejano music and also the Southwestern United States country music as well as '50s-'60s jazz and '90s-'00s post-rock, and they have been described by some as "desert noir" or indie rock. The band is named for the border town of Calexico, California.

Cool MP! Crystal Frontier is a great song, and it sums up the horror stories around the border. It used to be fun to jet down into Mexico for a day or to, but nowadays....it's spooky. The bodies and decapitated heads keep showing up everywhere.

All The Pretty Horses is a decieving tune as well, and has been a lullabye...but the original lyrics are creepy.

I must apologize, Phil B, I am just now getting around to checking this group out *and I am usually all over any southern/country music in a flash*


Interesting band/music. Very melancholy music, some is even quite somber. I like the song with Iron & Wine "Burn That Broken Bed".


Calexico has some great harmonies! I will definitely be doing a bit more exploration into this band.

I like `em!....I have "Carried To Dust"....I love that '59 Airline that he is playing couple of those videos, Eastwood makes some uniquely cool guitars!
