I was just wondering if anyone here has been successful in purchasing Digital Music through Band Camp?

I'm trying to purchase a Digital Album though this artist on their Band Camp page, my card details are being refused in that and even PayPal won't accept for this? I recently got a new card, though like the old one nothing but trouble. I Just barely managed to Activate it and add to my PayPal, though still no good.

I thought perhaps the artist hasn't setup any payment thing on their end despite Band Camp saying you can buy my music and album here, though perhaps if Band camp has that already in place and perhaps the artist hasn't carried through with it, thinking nobody's going to buy my music, though that's what I'm starting to think!

I decided not to sign-up for an account with Band Camp because I thought there's a fee involved with it and I just wanted to purchase an album.

I've purchased a few digital albums through Bandcamp, but only because they were new bands that weren't making CD's.

It went OK, I downloaded the albums in FLAC and converted to .mp3 later since I don't have a vehicle that can play FLAC's.

Never had any issues with payment and I've never paid fees to have a BC account, though I'm not sure that would be your issue.

I read they are changing some of their systems but I would also check with the bank to make sure your credit card is set up properly and the bank is not blocking it

from Google
  • Artist PayPal/Stripe Settings: The creator's linked payment account may have an internal error, or they are stuck mid-transition between payout processors. [1, 2]
  • Currency Mismatch: Direct credit card checkout on Bandcamp only works for specific currencies (USD, CAD, AUD, GBP, EUR, and JPY). If the artist lists an unsupported currency, direct cards fail. [1, 2]
  • Bank Fraud Protection: Your bank might be auto-declining the digital charge from Bandcamp without sending you an alert
Quick Fixes
    • Try Guest Checkout via PayPal: Even if standard PayPal fails, select PayPal and look for the guest option to force a direct card process through their portal. [1]
    • Check the Cart: If you are buying items from multiple artists, try checking out with items one by one in case just one seller's account is bugged.
    • Call Your Bank: Ask your card issuer if they are flagging or blocking charges from Bandcamp

It's deeply puzzling for me why this is occurring. I'm using a Debit Mastercard which I originally purchased from the Post Office. I can do transactions no worries on my Bills (Internet, Phone & when I get a Haircut), though have had other issues for things like Account for Tollway Roads, Ambulance Subscriptions.
For the Tollway Roads I had to end up ringing the company and give them my details for my Main Card because the Website refused my other card, even over the Phone they wouldn't accept it despite having enough money to cover the cost, the weirdest thing there was I went back online and used the card they'd refused, which was then accepted! :wtf:
The Ambulance Subscription one I think was accepted when I switched Web Browsers, though Annual Subscription hasn't been an issue there for a few years.

In more recent times my card has setup a secondary security section called an One Time Pass (OTP), you login and instead of it being a Type the following sequence to verify you're human, a Code is sent to your Email address with a 6 digit number. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't, the service has acknowledged there've run into some problems and told people it relates to people's Email accounts, though it's like gmail, yahoo fall into that group. They made an app for you to access your account through that, once that's setup and put in the OTP you don't need to enter over and over again (unlike their Website).
Something I was reading in Google relates to my address details, it was saying in that if your address details are different from the site you're purchasing through, transactions are declined. It maybe this which is the problem as my address details for my card don't show the state, everything else otherwise works, so Update my Address details I need to contact them. With PayPal you need to enter the State, it just seems odd if that were the case I would of received many payment declined, other purchases I've made through PayPal without issue, though this seems to be one that won't pass.

The album I was looking at purchasing is from a Local Artist dealing in AUD, on their band camp site it specifies how much you want to pay, though displaying the minimum you need to pay, I'm unsure if the amount has changed though still displaying an old amount. You can purchase each track individually, though calculated it would cost several dollars more than buying the whole album.

I'm just hesitant about calling this card service lot. I'd called once before when it was about the Toll Roads refusing to accept payment and they were more like use another card. PayPal tells me to use another card, though I got this card to use for online - which is what Mastercard specify on their website.

This has been a frustrating process, I called Card Services, gave me someone I couldn't fully understand (I should have just Hang-up when they started to speak), to explain to me what the problem is, I should have just told them to email the explanation, afterwards I decided to try see if I could get an answer that way with the email I'm using for the account, though apparently that wasn't enough to clear security - the security check over the phone I thought was unsatisfactory with them simply asking me "If am I the card holder" all I had to say was "Yes, I am he". So I'm getting nowhere with this lot, so it looks like I'm purchasing a Visa Gift Card just to see if that works with Band Camp - I'll be fuming if this fails on that site.
