This is something I've thought about for many years but haven't ever really talked about on the forums.
Bread on Wikipedia
Albums
1969 Bread
1970 On the Waters
1971 Manna
1972 Baby I'm-a Want You
1972 Guitar Man
1977 Lost Without Your Love
Bread was a band that had a string of "easy listening" hits in the early 70's including the following ... their most popular and well known tracks:
Make It With You
It Don't Matter To Me
If
Baby I'm-A Want You
Everything I Own
They had a few other tunes that got some airplay, but these were their biggest hits. All fine and dandy. They were good at what they did for a few years in the early to mid 70's. They had a niche and sold quite a few records in doing so. Of all of their radio and chart hits that I've heard from this band sounds like the songs I have listed above.... that soft-rock, easy listening stuff ...
... except for this one track which is a classic case of early 70's classic rock:
Mother Freedom
I loved Mother Freedom for as long as I can remember. When I first started playing guitar many years ago, the main riff in that song was one of the first things I learned (obviously not a hard riff to play). Anyway, since we don't have a thread for Bread, I figured I'd put up something and see what ya'll thought. Does how does a soft-rock band like Bread come up with such a cool classic rock track like they did in MF?
And for the record, Mother Freedom isn't the only cool classic rock stuff that they did, but it's just about the only hit they had that wasn't of the "AM Gold" variety. Just seems weird how a softy band could have a hit with such a cool NON-soft rock track like MF.
