The Beatles-The Beatles
As a young teenager, most of the music that was familiar to me was played by my parents of course. Their music on 8-tracks or “oldies” radio station. I was somewhat familiar with a lot of Beatles single releases and just a few others, like “Ob La Di, Ob La Da”.
But I remember the first time I heard “Dear Prudence” on a Beatles radio special. I had to find out where I would find the song and buy the album. Somehow I did.
I had a small allowance and money from mowing lawns and there was a “five and dime store”, Ben Franklin, less than a mile from our house which I knew had a very small music section that had copies of The Beatles Historic First Live Recordings and The Beatles. I bought both of them one weekend and suddenly I had a record collection: Sgt. Pepper’s, which I had won on the radio, this unauthorized live album, and “the white album”.
And again, since I bought vinyl records, and box sets, and cd remasters, I have seven copies; no eight counting my white vinyl copy.
