Guitaristen Ben Keith døde tirsdag på Neil Youngs gård i Californien

Den amerikanske pedal steel-guitarist Bennett Keith Schaeufele er bedst kendt under navnet Ben Keith og som en del af Neil Youngs band i fyrre år. Men tirsdag 27. juli sluttede det for guitaristen, der døde af et hjerteslag på Neil Youngs gård i det nordlige Californien.

Ben Keith mødte Neil Young, da den canadiske sangskriver havde brug for en pedal steel-guitarist til indspilningen af pladen "Harvest". Samarbejdet fortsatte i næsten fyrre år, og Keith har medvirket på et hav af Youngs udgivelser. Keith fik også rollen som Grandpa Green i filmen "Greendale" instrueret af Neil Young (billedet).

Karrieren startede for Ben Keith sammen med Patsy Cline i starten af 60'erne, og efterfølgende arbejdede han sammen med Ringo Starr, Emmylou Harris, Todd Rundgren, The Band, Warren Zevon og mange andre sideløbende med, at han arbejdede sammen med Neil Young.

Sideløbende gjorde Keith sig også som producer, og her havde han størst succes med "Pieces Of You", det millionsælgende debutalbum fra Jewel.

Ben Keith blev 73 år.

I'm gonna have to break out ''Harvest'' over the weekend and give it a good listen.

Probably the most important musician Neil Young has played with besides Crazy Horse. His acoustic records would not be what they are without Ben Keith, including material such as Tonight's The Night. Rest in Peace.
