Atheist was founded in 1984 in Florida under the name Oblivion,and later R.A.V.A.G.E. (which stands for Raging Atheists Vowing A Gory End).

Incredible band, this is the first time i've heard of them, but I am impressed.

Yea man their first 3 albums ( second and third releases especially ) are amazing. Their most recent album is okay. Doesn't suck by anymeans, but it is nothing like their first 3.

I'll look into either downloading or picking up some of their work. I'm sure i'll enjoy it.

Can't go wrong with either. If ya buy any album buy their second and their album and download their most recent one and see how you like their new sound. Kinda lost the jazz influence.

I will keep that in mind. :grinthumb

Gotta agree. They have had two of the best bassists that have ever graced the earth. I read some where that they crafted songs around Robert Patterson's bass lines which is really unheard of.

He is an amazing bassist without a doubt and that would account in part for their unique sound. Top 5 Death Metal band for me. :grinthumb
