Not sure if there is a thread already, search showed none. But Amorphis is a Finnish heavy metal band, they have done albums in various genres from death metal, progressive, even a bit of folk.

They aren't a band I know a whole lot about but they do deserve a thread as I have heard a couple of their albums including the 2011 release The Beginning of Times and thought they were amazing.

I love the progression in the music even if it isn't progressive as a genre in that particular music piece. They know how to set an atmosphere and draw the listener in.

Current Band members
Tomi Joutsen – vocals (since 2005)
Esa Holopainen – lead guitar (since 1990)
Tomi Koivusaari – rhythm guitar (since 1990), vocals (1990–1996)
Niclas Etelävuori – bass, backing vocals (since 2000)
Santeri Kallio – keyboards (since 1999)
Jan Rechberger – drums (1990–1995, since 2003)

Discography
The Karelian Isthmus (1992)
Tales From The Thousand Lakes (1994)
Elegy (1996)
Tuonela (1999)
Am Universam (2001)
Far From The Sun (2003)
Eclipse (2005)
Silent Waters (2007)
Skyforger (2009)
The Beginning of Times (2011)
Circle (2013)
Under The Red Cloud (2015)

My favourites so far.
You I Need, such a beautifully crafted song.

Mermaid just another piece of musical genius.

Narrow Path

Hope there are plenty of people here who like this band, I would be pretty annoyed if there already is a thread as the search feature showed nothing for me so hoping this is the first.

Re: Amorphis

I have Skyforger. Been awhile since I listened to it. TBH Riff, I can't remember if it did have any death metal vocals or not. I think it did(?). Does the new album contain some?

Re: Amorphis

It did have a few death vocals but not a great deal.

Re: Amorphis

Surprised no one else here likes this band, not really a death metal band like most others so it should be an accessible group to a lot of metalheads. Lot of progressive elements in this band.

Re: Amorphis

Big Amorphis fan here :grinthumb. I know them since 1994 when Tales From The Thousand Lakes was a cornerstone for me to the melodic death metal style. I have all their albums on cd. Their style evolved indeed but they never disappointed me. I also had the opportunity to see them live a few times.

A few of my favs from them:

Re: Amorphis

Recommend their album with the Least amount of growling vocals and I'll check them out.;)
