Re: Official America thread

Bump:shower

America is deifnitely on the top of my list right now for the record store... I just "previewed" Harbor and Hideaway... and I'm completely blown away by the arrangements and over all sound, the production is wonderful, and everything is so polished and great.. sort of like a Steely Dan record, but not jazz or as much rock n roll in it... I don't even know what to describe America with... I'm really in awe of these two albums and that's only digital... can't wait to get these on vinyl:D

Re: Official America thread

I'm a fan of America, when they were a trio. Dewey Bunnell, Gerry Beckley and Dan Peek.

After Dan Peek left America in 1977, the group was never the same.

America was nice 70's acoustic California rock, with a mellow laid back vibe to it, that was so cool.

I have America's first 5 albums, with the first three being my favorites...

America (1971)
Homecoming (1972)
Hat Trick (1973)
Holiday (1974)
Hearts (1975 )

I also have a live album.

Love the first album, and love the hits, ''A Horse With No Name'', ''Sandman'', ''I Need You''...

but also loved, ''Three Roses'', ''Rainy Day'' and ''Donkey Jaw''...

"Horse With No Name" could not have been a "ripoff" of "Heart of Gold" because the former was released at the end of 1971 and the latter in 1972. The claim was that the sound of Bunnell's vocals on Horse is similar to Neil Young's style. Even if true, I do not see anything wrong in that.
Thanks for posting that annie. I didn't feel like explaining it. I personally don't think ''Horse With No Name'' sounds anything like ''Heart Of Gold'' especially, musically.

Re: Official America thread

I can definitely see Horse With No Name having influence from neil Young, not Heart Of Gold though... and just the voice too, not the music, the instruments sound nothing like anything Neil Young did IMO

and Groovy, do you like the albums Hideaway and Harbor(last one with Peek)?
How long did they go with the "H" album titles anyway?:heheh:

It sounds so beautiful and nice, but it has enough of an edge to remain fun
