One of my favorites of the Jazz/Rock fusion guitarists, he is a legend in the jazz world and one of the greatest guitarists of his generation. The first album I bought was Casino, and it simply blew my socks off when I listened to it. I am not the biggest jazz fan around, but Al Di Meola deserves a place in anyone's library, at least I think so.

You introduced me to this album, LG and it is pretty decent. I am a semi-sorta jazz fan, and I agree.......this album is a must have.

If any of you are familiar with the writer/historian Robert Lynch, he praises Al Di Meola's electric guitar work.

In this video he collaborates with Paco De Lucia and John McLaughlin playing the Mediterranean Sundance.......simply beautiful!!

:D you also introduced me to them :p

I own:
Al di Meola.John Mclaughlin.Paco deLucia : Friday Night In San Francisco
Al Di Meola - Diabolic Inventions and Seduction for Solo Guitar
Al DiMeola - The Infinite Desire

And since 2 of those were in flac... i suspect you sent them to me..

Another one of his best albums, Elegant Gypsy. I have one more on my list that represent the most accessible of his 70's solo releases.

My dad had a record of this guy and I blew him off in my early years but when I was attempting to learn the bass I listened to it and wow was all I could say....

I love the Latin feel of his solo albums, especially Casino. I am happy you at least Know of Al Di Meola, he is still active today, but is suffering from permanent hearing loss now and rarely plays his electric guitar anymore. He was here six months ago and played an acoustic set at our best music venue.

My third and final selection, Land of the Midnight Sun, these three albums are the only ones I have.

I live in Buffalo, NY
I love his Electric Rendezvous album with ''Cruisin'' & ''Black Cat Shuffle".
I was fortunate enough to see Return to Forever in the early/mid 80's & they were spectacular.Stanley Clarke is probably the best bass player I've ever seen

I love Stanley Clarke, my brother had one of his first solo albums, the one with Rock 'n Roll Jelly and I have not been able to find a good copy, and I have looked for months.

Yeah RTF was a great band, you are fortunate to have seen them live Bucky.:grinthumb

Al Di Meola's music is amazing. I rarely buy albums for just one song, but I bought Prelude just for his eight minute and fifty four second version of "Also Sprach Zarathusrta"* and was amazed how much I liked the other tunes on there. I never did buy any of his other albums so I'll have to check them out on iTunes one of these days.

*not to be confused with "Also Sprach Kazoostra" by The Temple City Kazoo Orchestra. :heheh:
