    I grew up with ABBA - hey, living next door to them... always loved them. Perhaps a bit on and off but still... great songwriters and much more than just a disco/pop-act.

    if mem serves they got one monster of a synth from Yamaha
    back in 1975 one of only 2 built and that machine seems to be the key to their special abba sound .

    The genius of ABBA was due to the brains Benny and Bjorn, they had a mathematical formula they followed almost exclusively for every ABBA song. I am not sure if they used drum machines or not, but it's possible.

    As far as I know they stuck to a fairly regular rhythm group of, eh, live bass player and drummer. They probably used machines here and there but not a lot.
