2017 has been a slight improvement over 2016 for me. 2011 was an excellent year for my musical preferences. No years since then have come close. My list:

The Further Side - Nova Collective(prog. metal/jazz-fusion{jazz-metal}): a collaboration of members from Haken, Between The Buried And Me, and Trioscape.

Ra's Dawn - From The Vile Catacombs(prog. metal/power/thrash)

Satan's Hallow - Satan's Hallow(retro heavy metal): female lead vocals which seems to be somewhat of a trend over the last number of years.

The Offering(EP) - The Offering(heavy metal/power/symph)

KXM - Scatterbrain(heavy metal/hard rock): a power trio supergroup consisting of Doug Pinnick(King's X), George Lynch(Dokken) and Ray Luzier(Korn). This actually works. Can hear the King's X influence but the show here is Lynch's guitar.

Madrost - The Essence of Time Matches No Flesh(tech. thrash/prog. metal/death): Comparisons to Vektor but Madrost doesn't wander and wanker. Tight.

Will continue...

I'm gone to check out White Ward. Read some reviews. Curious to hear jazz elements w/ prog. death metal.
