Hey guys,

This song is sang by a band who's language is not English, they're singing in English however not amazingly, I usually search by lyric snippets in quotation marks, but have had no such luck here mainly because I can't get any coherent lines of lyrics - it's definitely a cover of probably a relatively famous American song - I have no idea where else I might post such a thing, for smarter people to help identify...

The recording is from 1975-77 from a rehearsal, some key lyrics seem to be repeated quite a bit, others not so much. This isn't a snippet or anything, it's a full on 6 minute track...

Most likely something about a "black woman", or maybe "like a woman". Some parts definitely sound like "I'm very sorry, black woman", which honestly doesn't sound right, and doesn't make much sense.

I have the whole rehearsal tape, and most of the songs are covers and re-arrangements of existing songs, so I don't expect it to be an original song, doubly so because it's not in the language of the singers.

Most likely it's a song where they butchered the lyrics or made up their own due to mishearing - I also find it hard to believe they could have invented the 2+ minutes of instrumental work leading into the lyrics, it just seems very creative, for a decent but amateurish band.

I would honestly take: 1) attempts at identifying the song, 2) ideas about which band might have played the original, 3) ideas about where else I can post this to try and get some help.

If anyone can help I'd much appreciate it - I've gotten good at identifying songs over the years but this one has stumped me. I am not ruling out that it's an original composition it's just very unlikely...

Yep I'm with Nai.. That is a slowed down version of Santana Black Magic Woman.. The group or DJ lowered the pitch to play it slower.. I mean WAY slower..

I tried Shazaam and it didn't pick up the artist.. But my guess it's a garage band covering Santana.. Or it could be YOU playing DJ cause your you tube channel uploaded this song 2020 and it's the only one with your channel. Scoring hits are you??;)

Here's the original which is accurate on pitch..

Aha, so that's the song! Yep no doubt this is it, wow good thing I decided to look up "classic rock forums" and post it here, you guys really helped me out.

I don't know if the pitch was necessarily lowered, sounds like mostly just the tempo.

I don't understand this stuff about the DJ-ing and the youtube channel. I uploaded this "unlisted" to Youtube yesterday to attach it here, I don't have any public videos on my channel (to my knowledge?) and my channel I don't think even existed in 2020. This recording was taken from a rehearsal tape from ~1975-1977, performed by an ensemble from the USSR.

American music trickled down in the USSR from certain places but it was not possible for the average person to own for example, a record from the USA, so music like this would have come from tape copies of tape copies, either smuggled in "rips" or maybe recorded from radio. What I'm saying is the guys that covered it were probably not listening to a very good quality recording of it, maybe at a slightly off speed, hence the result.

Having heard the original, I am pretty impressed by this cover, it is really not too bad and is a lot more chilled out. The Santana version has a lot of polish and professionalism which actually can be a bit off-putting.

Anyways I appreciate the speedy help, guys.
