    Favorite Rock bands 2013/14?

Massive Blues Pills Crobot. There are others who had killer new releases out, but they're all established bands. Want to spread some love for the up and comers.

    Distortion of Sound

Welcome mate. It was one of those shows where I watched and was relieved that there are other people in the world who think like it do.

Have you ever become obsessed with an album that changed you socially

Dream Theater Scenes From A Memory. It was my first introduction to the band and as a guitarist I quickly became obsessed with the odd meters. I'd be counting my footsteps to practice off beats.

Review Fates Warning – Darkness in a Different Light

Fates Warning – Darkness in a Different Light Review by Dave Smiles Fates Warning are back with their first album since 2004’s FWX and the eleventh in their catalogue. Where FWX took an approach stripped down of many of the Fates Warning traits, Darkness in a Different Light brings the band...

Would you go to a concert alone?

Yeah, I've gone on my own. Hard to find people with decent taste in music these days, and / or want to spend some money seeing a live band. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who thinks the way I do, other times I'm glad there's no one else who thinks like I do.

    Controversial or unpopular opinions

Yeah. I for one don't want to hear the same album over and over. However, there just isn't thing on Risk that was very memorable to me.

Has your list of fav bands/artists changed over the years?

I'll give a more detailed post as soon as I have a spare hour. I will say I have Slayer, Sepultra, Pantera and Opeth albums in my collections as well as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Al DiMeloa, Micheal Jackson (best of) and Bach. To name a few.

    Controversial or unpopular opinions

Super Collider is a good album. What's so wrong with Megadeth slowing it down at bit. It's still got some good tunes on it. Not as good as Youthanasia though. Risk... um, Crush Em is cool. Give them that.

Rock Stars. Are There any left?

LOL. I was going to post that it was on Paraoind, but I was beaten to the mark. I get the point. My opinion of a rock star is someone who transcends the band and the fans and becomes a household name. I wasn't a fan of Oasis, but I know who the Liam Gallagher is. There doesn't seen to be anyone...

Rock Stars. Are There any left?

Agree on that one. Part of my first post on this thread said that rock stars mostly suffered from some form of mental illness of childhood trauma. - except for maybe Mick Jagger.

Rock Stars. Are There any left?

Ouch, now you're pushing some buttons. GNR are my favorite band. I have a lot of respect for Axl. I've collected countless bootleg videos, magazines, bios etc. I don't know the guy, but I understand a lot of his behavior. interesting point, before the UYI tour, no show was stopped due to...

Rock Stars. Are There any left?

See I'd rather a musician be always pushing their own natural ability and if that means they're slightly off key and make a mistake so be it. Twist and Shout by The Beatles is a classic example. How shot is Lennon's voice? WOW! But it works so well and be put everything he had into it. Not list...

Rock Stars. Are There any left?

MY GOD!!! I think I just found my soul mate!! LOL My thoughts exactly. I hate this 'evil record company' attitude. How did all the rock stars get rich if all the record companies were screwing them? This is a fantastic doco. Really show an insight into the industry and how it's changed...

Rock Stars. Are There any left?

Me too. Don't get me wrong, I love checking out new bands, I'd just like to see more bands being able to tour their own product not just being part of a massive package. The bands you listed probably put on a great show and have rabid fans, but to the best of my knowledge they don't have any...

Mike Portnoy blasts new Pink Floyd album

Look at it this way. What reaction would people have if Gilmour took the pre-recorded unreleased material from Rick Wright, added to it and released it under his name as a solo project? Now THAT would be disrespectful.

Rock Stars. Are There any left?

:omg: I didn't realize I was an anti-drummist. :gig But seriously, you're right. Those guys are every bit rock stars.

Rock Stars. Are There any left?

I'd have to agree with you on that one. Ozzy, Freddie Mercury and Jimi Hendrix are worlds apart, but all fall under the banner of rock star. I don't care what anyone says, hip hop is not rock. Hip Hop artist are not rock stars. They may fill the persona in some cases, but there really need...

Rock Stars. Are There any left?

I'd have to agree Jack White is a rock star, though personaly I kinda lost interest after reading an interview with him in Guitar World where he claims Stevie Ray Vaughan was 'no big deal.' Not sure who Matt Bellamy is. Have to check.

"US rock scene has never recovered from grunge"- Rob Zombie

Although I have heard some good recordings band have made in their bedrooms or garages, nothing beats the sound that comes from a studio set up just for recording. Check out Dave Grohl's documentary Sound City. Fantastic insight into a recording studio and the attitudes from some famous...
