    Women and Guitars:Why no pioneers?

Vehicle & DaKillerWolf have put a close to this thread. Many reasons to place the fault on a particular reason. Ooohh well, such is life.

    Women and Guitars:Why no pioneers?

Judging from the comment on the video. Sexism seems to be the answer. Random question. Why aren't women reply to the question. Even here, men seem to reign :D

I would have thought smaller fingers would be an advantage. Second point makes sense.

    Women and Guitars:Why no pioneers?

Did not mean to bring the tone down everybody.....sorry :D I never forgot Joni. However, she sort of falls into the Kate Bush camp. Women do brilliantly in art/progressive/alternative rock. That's my point. Why hasn't a woman taken that natural, free-flowing bohemianness (not a real word) to...

    Women and Guitars:Why no pioneers?

The video showed "best female guitarist". Why the sub-category (rhetorical question). You say "thing of the past" in regards to guitar heros. Is that lack of dedication by women as well as men?

Wasn't Joan Jett main appeal, is that she didn't conform to the dolly-bird, girly persona. Therefore, she was praised just for being different.

So it might be the first option. Sexism, since most who like rock (in a conventional sense) are male. They might find it 'hard' to idolise a woman as a guitar hero. Even if innately. Sort of how it would be hard for a top male athlete to suddenly be gay and still have the same fan-base.

Yet women excel on the drums. Why ignore the main arc of Rock??? 6dJUnh6N8-U I agree with your points though.

Not a house hold name. Hasn't done anything to make the Rock world take notice. She can play. I'm not saying women cannot play. I'm saying there hasn't been one worthy of top 100 contention in 100 years of Rock.

    Women and Guitars:Why no pioneers?

That is all good and well, but what about the guitar. Why is the electric guitar so elusive for women to tame.

    Women and Guitars:Why no pioneers?

Many may not take a female guitarist seriously because of her sex. In 100 years, not one has shown promise???? So, Lack the natural talent/fortitude.

Not in the top 100 though. Classical guitars, see; not causing a stir in the mainstream youth genre. Why is there no Jenny Hendrix, Jenny Page. No Emily Van Halen. I just always wondered, why there is none that makes one go "WOW! What did I just hear".

    Women and Guitars:Why no pioneers?

Every time there is a top 10/100 guitar players, there is no women. How comes (in general) women guitarist go down the acoustic guitar route or if electric, a Punk rock persona. There is women that rock, but......why isn't there a female guitarist that revolutionise guitar playing? Is guitar...

21st century rock artists who would have been huge in the 70's

I have thought about about it some more and you're right. Someone mentioned in another thread Tom Morello. YouTubed him and he comes across as boring in my mind, yet is technically proficient. I he would struggle in a 70's world. I have changed my my mind, many would have difficulty breaking...

Thread Closed What Are You Listening To?

Re: Rate The Song Above You II I liked the guitar play, but hated the vocals. Seemed liked a poor mans Led Zeppelin. 6/10 ONLY because of the guitar playing. I know this isn't the song before me, but I have to say I really like this one. 9/10 from me. dEzZ8hSZU0k

So a Heavy Metal guitarist from 2012 wouldn't blow the minds of someone in the 70's. The sounds would be new to them.

21st century rock artists who would have been huge in the 70's

Errrr....all of them. Pretty much all guitarist now have the knowledge of guitar play that wasn't available average performer in the 70's. That is like saying, which car now would be better than one in the 70's.
