    Emmylou Harris (Official Thread)

You can't really have a discussion about Emmylou Harris without mentioning her beginnings as a musical protege of the late, great Gram Parsons. They made some incredible recordings together.

Trampled By Turtles: Ass, Gas, or Bluegrass. Nobody Rides For Free!

I've been a fan of TbT for a few years. If I recall correctly I think I first heard about them through CDBaby. My favorite album is probably "Blue Sky and the Devil." They also win in my book for having one of the best song titles around - "My Brother Works for the CIA When He's Not Doing Time."

    Gram Parsons

I could have sworn I posted a long, detailed biographical thread about Parsons within the last year or two, but I can't seem to find it. Good to see some other GP love here.

Re: Member's Picture Thread Vol. 2 A couple of shots from last week's Tour de Cure ride at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway... Coming in for my first PBJ/rest break at 25 miles. I'd just finished taking my turn leading out our paceline on a 2.5 mile lap at about 22 MPH, so I'm looking a...

2010 bands that sound like 60's 70's Classic Rock??

I just discovered Middle Brother. I don't know that as a band they sound like classic rockers per se, but some of the songs have more than a hint of Neil Young and even a little CCR on one song in particular. A little raw indie flavor, a little rockabilly thrown in for good measure, too...

Re: Member's Picture Thread Vol. 2 Most of the time it's the Monon Trail - a paved multi-use path that runs from 10th St just north of downtown Indy, to the north all the way to about 162nd St or so at the Carmel/Westfield line. From there it turns to gravel. This shot was taken at the Monon...

Would you give up digital and go back to vinyl music?

They really did come a long way from their early days, when they were originally intended as simple voice recorders for dictation purposes. You're right about mechanical improvements (both in the machine and the cassette) and better tape formulations being driving forces in their development...

Would you give up digital and go back to vinyl music?

I can't say I've ever heard of a CD being worn out from play. I'm not sure how it would be possible. I know mis-handling can cause damage to the plastic surface, making it hard or impossible for the laser to read, but "wear" as we knew it in the LP era, from simply the tracking of the laser? I...

Would you give up digital and go back to vinyl music?

Threading reels was kind of an art form all to itself. Not hard to master, but it took a little care. Just one more analog "ritual" that's pretty much lost to the mists of time. And it was not only the physical size of the tape (1/4") that made for higher fidelity, it was also the tape speed...

    Manassas (Official Thread)

Re: Manassas-Manassas I got to see Manassas live when I was a student at SIU in Carbondale, though at that time I viewed it as a consolation concert - I really wanted to see CSNY, but they'd "disbanded" at that point. Manassas was good, but I couldn't help but be disappointed a little because...

    Marshall Tucker Band (Official Thread)

Re: Official Marshall Tucker Band Thread BTW, I got a copy of Carolina Dreams last week, and I've been listening. It's got a lot in common with the prior albums that I liked a lot. I think you're right, LG - this one's a keeper.
