    Black Sabbath Best Vocalist

No disrespect to the late great RJD, but Sabbath isn't Sabbath without Ozzy. Is Ozzy a better "vocalist" than Dio? Who cares? I don't listen to those first (best) Sabbath albums to hear vocal talent.

    Alice Cooper (Official Thread)

Re: Alice Cooper ~ March 2010 Band of the Month where did you come across the information that Alice Cooper has anything to do with this wretched B-movie? I've googled till I'm all googled out but haven't seen anything that would connect him to this production of Shani Grewel's.

    Who are your biggest influences?

As a bassist my primary influence is Peter Hook (Joy Division & New Order). His ability to weave melodic lines into the bottom end is amazing and unique. I also admire Paul McCartney (just listen to "Rain" or "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" and you'll see why. I'm not an REM fan anymore but I was...

    The Flaming Lips (Official Thread)

Re: The Flaming Lips There was a movement here not too long ago to change the state song from the corny Rogers & Hammerstein ditty "Oklahoma" to something a little less cheesy. When it became apparent that the Lips were winning with write-in votes for "Do You Realize" something had to be done...

    Films Showcasing the Music Industry

I guess I've been too close to Joy Division for too long, because I really didn't like "Control". It was, indeed, made in conjunction with Deborah Curtis and based, in part, on her book "Touching From a Distance". But this gives a somewhat slanted, biased view of the events in the film. For...

CD's vs. Vinyl vs. Other formats

That's something I should work on. I've been used to it for most of my life, but lately I've noticed it more and more, especially when listening to quiet passages of classical music. I fear it will get worse, but I don't really listen to music any louder than I did when I first noticed the...

Mine is in the left, primarily. Perhaps we could arrange for a swap? :)

CD's vs. Vinyl vs. Other formats

Once tinnitus gets to a certain point you may as well be listening to 8-Track tapes. Mine hasn't progressed to that point, but the whole "vinyl vs. CD" argument is totally irrelevant to these ears.

    Fairport Convention

I like Richard and Linda Thompson's Shoot Out the Lights and I LOVE Sandy Denny, but for some reason I could never get into Fairport Convention, outside of their work with Denny. The absolute best place to start with Sandy Denny is the anthology No More Sad Refrains. The solo material on disc...

What Does it Mean to Be Overrated?

A band is overrated when they don't live up to the hype surrounding them. Which, of course, is entirely subjective. I think the Beach Boys Pet Sounds is one of the most overrated albums in pop/rock history. Does that mean it is? No, it just means I think it is. If I say I think your band is...

The Dave Clark Five! (Official Thread)

Re: The Dave Clark Five! I love the Dave Clark Five. In fact, their album Try Too Hard was the first rock record I ever owned. My mom bought if for me when I was, like, 5 or 6 years old. They were definitely a Beatles knock-off band, like Herman's Hermits and a slew of other British Invasion...

Bands You Never Used To Like, But Now You Do?

A Roxy Music t-shirt IS awesome! I have an on-and-off relationship with Steely Dan. There are times when I just love them. Then, there are other times when I cannot stand them, especially Fagen's snide delivery. Bands I used to like but don't anymore? That's a long, long list.

    Hippy "psychedelic" songs

A whole 'nother kind of psychedelic music with definite hippie aspects. Sky Saxon of the Seeds was involved with these guys for years after that band disintegrated. This is trippy as hell, and if you are so inclined to imbibe in controlled substances, please do so with caution while listening...

    Pink Floyd - Favorite Song?

Re: Favorite Pink Floyd Song So much to respond to, so little time. There would be no Pink Floyd were it not for Syd Barrett. He was their driving force. Practically everything about them was the result of his genius and vision. Waters even implies as much throughout the course of the Wish...

The Alan Parsons Project (Official Thread)

Re: The Alan Parsons Project I don't know, Lord...it just sounds generic to me. Not enough of an edge. I'll eventually give them another chance, but I don't think I'll ever like "Games People Play" and the songs that are like that one.

    Pink Floyd - Favorite Song?

Re: Favorite Pink Floyd Song I love The Final Cut. It is the perfect epilogue to The Wall, almost like a prequel, in which we are given a glimpse into why Pink is as screwed up as he is. "Not Now John" never ceases to get me riled up. I just listened to Animals a couple of days ago, for the...

The Alan Parsons Project (Official Thread)

Re: The Alan Parsons Project I liked Tales of Mystery and Imagination and I, Robot quite a bit. They lost me after those. I've got several of them and have tried very hard to develop an appreciation, but to no avail. I do think that "Time" is an awesome song, though.
