Many have suggested (George Martin included) that the exalted White Album could have been so much better had it been pared down a bit, and not made into such a vanity project for the individual members (I'm paraphrasing a bit on that last point). Forgotten Bands of the Sixties
Not as obscure as some but my vote, at least on this side of the Pond, would be the Small Faces. That's where I think Marriott was at his best, and the band was a very cool mix of Mod-rock and soul.
