Absolutely a favourite artist of mine, good range of styles across all the albums.

I could never get into his singing either, but they certainly had something as a band. Don't have any of that earlier stuff now since switching from vinyl :(

    Motorheaducation

Interesting question. In my view, Motorhead are so highly regarded because they have always stuck to a simple formula: hard, driving rock n roll turned up to 11! No dilution, no compromise. I don't think they've ever been particularly high quality in technical prowess or song writing, but those...

    Rory Gallagher vs Gary Moore

Hmm, not sure I'd agree with that? The influences on both musician's electric playing seem about the same to me, but Rory did a lot of styles on acoustic guitar as well, which took him to some places Gary never went.

Not going to try to come up with 15, but a couple I don't see here so far: Wayne Bennett. Alvin Youngblood Hart. Roy Buchanan.

    Rory Gallagher vs Gary Moore

Rory Gallagher. Gary Moore is an excellent guitarist, technically better than Rory, I think. But Rory has an 'honesty' in his playing, something that comes from the heart. I know who I would rather have seen live. I remember when Gary started doing his blues thing. Being at the time a stalwart...

    Most Overlooked Rock Guitar Genius

I've nailed the answer. It's me! No, wait, listen to me. You think you've never heard guitar playing so bad, but that's my genius - it's actually so bad, it's brilliant :p And you've never heard of me, right? Well, that's pretty damn overlooked in my book :D

    Your favourite all-time albums?

You got that right! Ok, I'll make a start - probably add to this list later, and for heaven's sake, don't ask me to put them in order of favourites of favourites lol. UFO - Strangers In The Night Rainbow - Difficult To Cure Rush - Hemispheres Motorhead - Overkill AC/DC - If You Want Blood AC/DC...

Iron Maiden: Killers vs Number of the Beast

I heard Maiden right from the start - in fact they were a local band to me - so the Di'Anno albums will always be my favourites. But "Hallowed" is a brilliant track, and I possibly prefer that to any individual track on Killers. Never really been a fan of Dickinson's vocals though. If you said...

    Joe Bonamassa (Official Thread)

Because he loves playing it, and people will pay to see it? And he has already done four albums with BCC, but is not really a rock guitarist, more blues. Also, the collaborations with Beth Hart, also largely old material. That's blues for ya! So you do understand :)

    Led Zeppelin VS Deep Purple

Tough one, but Led Zep for me overall, although certain DP tracks I rate possibly higher than anything the Zep did. I guess being a blues fan, the stronger influence of that in LZ's music is what turns the trick for me. and is also the reason that "Lazy" by DP is a firm favourite. I like the...

    Kiss vs Rush

I could never take Kiss seriously, with all that make-up...hmm, yet strangely, that never put me off Alice Cooper. But I also don't like Kiss's music. I love Rush, up to and including Moving Pictures though. Rush it is then!

    Gimme Shelter vs Helter Skelter

I haven't even heard Helter Skelter that I'm aware of. So it's Gimme Shelter by default, although it's one of my favourite Stones tracks, so chances are it would win anyway. Never been a Beatles fan.

What were your top 5 albums the year you were 16.

Back In Black Highway To Hell If You Want Blood Powerage Let There Be Rock :oyea: I did know other bands existed, even listened to some of them sometimes.

    In the beginning

Only thing that springs to mind for me is the AC/DC track, "Let There Be Rock", lyrics start: In the beginning Way back in 1955 Man didn't know 'bout a rock n roll show And all that jive. Although that came out on the album, Let There Be Rock, in 1977, with a live version on If You Want Blood...

    Hi Everyone.. Jimmy here :)

Hello Jimmy, and welcome to CRF. It may well be sunny in Leeds right now (but I doubt it!), but I'm sure the snow shovels will be getting a workout, lol. Good taste you have there! VH may not be my very top favourite band, but they have done some awesome stuff over the years. I'd have to give...

Ozzy Osbourne vs. Ronnie James Dio

Ronnie's lyrics have put me off a fair bit of his stuff too. Normally, I'm not that bothered about the lyrics, if the music is good, but he is a bit too 'dungeons and dragons' for me, and has such a strong voice that there's no avoiding them really. But purely as a singer, I still rate him very...

    Guns N' Roses (Official Thread)

On the other hand, Slash is the one who stuck to his, er, guns, and has continued to turn out some great classic-style hard rock. He can be as much of an asshole as he likes if he carries on doing that, as far as I'm concerned. Rock stars will be rock stars. I don't look to them for lifestyle...
