ELP : Emerson, Lake, & Palmer (Official Thread)

Carl Palmer was still a teenager, albeit a very talented one, when he found success with Atomic Rooster. His playing for them still sounds great.

ELP : Emerson, Lake, & Palmer (Official Thread)

That's true. It's a sad fact that some groups can continue for too long - I would prefer Deep Purple and Yes to call it a day, but Gillan and Squire will carry on until they drop. Carl Palmer was young when ELP split, still feels energetic and is in control of his own band.

ELP : Emerson, Lake, & Palmer (Official Thread)

^ Carl Palmer has said that if High Voltage had been a success, they would have continued. The problem is, they did not rehearse enough and did not give the reunion time to develop. Presumably, there was a deeper reason, like a continued clash between Emerson and Lake. A strong manager or...

    Pete Seeger dies, aged 94

Influential folk singer Pete Seeger has died, aged 94. He was famous for Turn, Turn, Turn, We Shall Overcome and Where Have all the Flowers Gone?, and was a subject of the hateful McCarthy witchhunts. Pete Seeger dies aged 94 | Music | theguardian.com

    Blues Classic "All Your Love"

Eric's guitar playing has a searing quality, but I don't like the vocals. SRV's vocals are strained and Steve Miller is a bit too laid back. Gary's has good vocals and guitar playing, so I voted for him.

    Jethro Tull (Official Thread)

My local radio station, Solent, have made Living in the Past their album of the week. Today, I heard them play the excellent Life's a Long Song. It is full of Ian Anderson's eccentric mannerisms and he and Martin Barre had become a cohesive partnership. I've got the MFSL version, so I may have...

    The Moody Blues (Official Thread)

If you like The Moody Bues, you might like Barclay James Harvest. They were known as the poor man's Moody Blues, but are a good band in their own right.

    Bruce Springsteen (Official Thread)

I don't know. My first memory of Ray Stevens was Everything is Beautiful and it was one of the first singles I bought. He may have been a songwriter for other people, but I'm not sure of his background. Johnny Mathis was regarded as easy listening in the UK, despite making interesting records...

    The Moody Blues (Official Thread)

I would say listen to the first seven or eight in order (ignoring The Magnificent Moodies 1965). Some people think On the Threshold of Dream is the next best after Days of Future Passed, but I like In Search of the Lost Chord. Really, you cannot go wrong with any of these. Also, don't forget the...

What are the worst band names ever?

There's a Spanish thrash band called F*** Off, except they don't use the asterisks. I suppose their fans think it's a lovely name.

I like both of those versions of Misty. Ray Stevens was good before he started the novelty records. Johnny Mathis became a bit cheesy in the seventies.

Musicians Hall Of Fame Inductees 2014

Peter Frampton was interviewed recently about Comes Alive and said he had four flop albums, each of which performed marginally worse than its predecessor. In the meantime he was touring and playing the material relentlessly (mainly in the US). He put the success of the live album down to a...
