Review Judas Priest- British Steel (1980) ***

Classic Rock Album of the Day- Judas Priest- British Steel (1980) *** I like to brag that we Rush fans are among the most loyal and fervent on earth. Of course that point is debatable, and fans of today's band could also make a believable argument too. Judas Priest is definitely one of the...

Review Rush- Farewell to Kings- (1977) *****

Classic Rock Album of the Day- Rush- Farewell to Kings- (1977) ***** It was a well known fact that Rush really hit their professional turning point in '76 with 2112. It was a pivotal event not only allowing them artistic control of their product, but it did two other things in cementing their...

Review Neil Young- Tonight's the Night (1975) ****

No, but I have vinyl going back to the mid to late 60's. I played many so often, I am guessing that a lot of those are very valuable based on wear. I am guessing the more valuable ones will the ones like my Yellow Gold Grand Funk album. AC School's Out, still with the panties, among others...

Review Neil Young- Tonight's the Night (1975) ****

I used to be anal retentive on making sure my Neil Young Vinyl collection was up to complete, in the day, and it was not an easy task. Kept it up till about 1992, then lost interest. I even have an original WB Reprise "On the Beach" LP, which was a really difficult find even for a record...

Review Weezer- Weezer (Green Album) 2001- *** 1/2

Classic Rock Album of the Day- Weezer- Weezer (Green Album) (2001)- *** 1/2 Weezer was always one of the bright spots as the late '80's and early '90's started ushering in gaping wide holes, and a vacuum of not only good rock bands, but rock bands in general. At this point in history of the...

Review Led Zeppelin- In Through the Out Door (1979) ****

My one shot at Zep was to go was in '77 at either Baton Rouge and Houston. Sucker sold out so fast, I didn't have a chance. Those who did get to see them (like Hendrix) truly were very lucky,

    Review Fleetwood Mac- Mirage (1982) *** 1/2

Classic Rock Album of the Day- Fleetwood Mac- Mirage (1982) *** 1/2 By 1982, the era of Fleetwood Mac's dominance and stranglehold on the radio had ended. The 3 previous behemoths had yielded 22M in sales, contrasting today's album which only yielded 2M. It could be speculated that...

Classic Rock Album of the Day- Led Zeppelin- In Through the Out Door (1979) **** Kind of mixed emotions today with this review. This one had previously completed my review of the LZ discography, and of course was the last studio effort by one of the all time greats. I had previously panned...

    Review Allman Brothers - Self Titled (1969) *** 1/2

Ha Ha... actually more of a senior moment than boozing. I actually liked the Willlbury collaboration, with the expectation that we would get songwriting instead of of musicanship. I don't think the intent was ever to do any ground breaking. Just good solid vicarious fun. Diff strokes I guess

    Review Allman Brothers - Self Titled (1969) *** 1/2

Point well taken Doc. Again subjective to what is likely a minority POV. But again my take is that I love when multi-genre talents collaborate.... like the Wilbury's. This one just seemed contrived and forced. And maybe more of a skewed disappointment than a a look at content alone.

My Top 20 Lists that I compiled as a kid 1973-1990

I had Zep near the top of these lists even back to the first ones in '73. I have no idea of why some of these re-entered during the subsequent years. Maybe nostalgia? Maybe lack of new good music? honest, I don't remember, and these were what I wrote down at the time.

    Review Journey- Departure (1980) *** 1/2

Though the language is strong...DDY and Perry took what I thought were great rock bands and turned them into pop acts. Again, just one reviewer's opinion. I am sure there is a contingent out there who preferred this direction. Me? I think a lot of great music was left on the table by these...
