@dr wu Not sure what Catfish is listing...lps that came out in 74 or bands that he liked during the year in general since most of the bands had lps out before 74....?" " Back when I age 15-33 (1973-1990), I would take time every month listing my 20 favorite bands at that time. Kind of a way I...

Review Yes- Close to the Edge (1972) *****

Classic Rock Album of the Day- Yes - Close to the Edge- (1972)- ***** Half of the fun of doing these reviews is choosing an LP that is a joy to hear, like seeing a masterpiece. A masterpiece in essence of an audio painting that is 10X greater than the sum of its pieces. Yes is that kind of...

My Top 20 Lists that I compiled as a kid 1973-1990

just my personal preferences, and I am probably unlike most early Sabbath fans, where my preferences were Vol4, Master of Reality, Paranoid, and then Self Titled. Of course these are my early tastes... Which changes drastically as the months and years pass.

Review Creedence Clearwater Revival- Willy and the Poor Boys- (1969) *****

Very very cool. I am huge into genalogy. Probably more obsessed with it than music. Only rocker I am related to is Don Henley (3rd cousin once removed)

Review Creedence Clearwater Revival- Willy and the Poor Boys- (1969) *****

Classic Album of the Day- Creedence Clearwater Revival- Willy and the Poor Boys (1969). ***** If you take the factor of longevity out of the equation, there can be a strong argument made that Creedence Clearwater Revivial may be the greatest American rock band in history. Try listening more...

Review The Beatles- Magical Mystery Tour (1967) *****

I guess one thing, I should have mentioned, is that reviews, opinions etc, when it comes to music is purely subjective. There is and never will be an empirical formula for how good a song. There are no wrong or right opinions when it comes to tunes. It boils down to preferences and nuanced...

Review Emerson Lake and Palmer- Tarkus (1971) ***

Classic Rock Album of the Day- Emerson Lake and Palmer- Tarkus (1971). *** Today's installment is the best composition from the best composers of rock history. So why only 3 stars? Just because a piece of music is at its utter best at composition, does not necessarily mean, translate, and...

"Unlistenable" might not be what I exactly meant. I've done a Tarkus review, and I'll add a little later, to let you see where I am coming from.

Thanks Recorg...... Wasn't sure how a Vanity Thread would be recieved, especially since I am a new here. Totally agree with assessment of ELP. As talented as they are, their pinnacle of musicianship coincided with their most unlistenable album. Tarkus, is a masterpiece of composition, but...

    The Catfish

Thanks for the greetings. I am absolutely floored by the knowldedge and insight of the CRF members here. Where at other areas, I felt like a facilitator, here I feel like I am a minor leaguer, now joining the Big Leagues. I just hope I can do my share to contribute.

Thank you so much for the kind words.... And ...No, please take part in the thread That is half the fun of reminiscing about our youth. And it might give a chance for some to hear of a band that they may have missed in the day. As I progress with these, there are some obscure ones that...

Review The Beatles- Magical Mystery Tour (1967) *****

CRF citizens have been kind so far. Now, I am going into dangerous territory, and provide one that is more wildly accepted as iconic. I mean this one and Sargent Peppers have been so parsed, discussed, and studied, I am really treading on some dangerous turf here. So, if you think I am FOS...

To all: Thanks for letting me particpate. "The Exploited"- Anti-UK Very tight, strong bass line, and soloing. I can see pieces of Metallica, Gwar, and Sabbath as influences. but enough of their own innovative stuff to keep it interesting. Of course, being Scottish, had to be a hinder for...

    New Tony Iommi track....

Iommi is the reason my first guitar was a maroon SG, like the one shown on my profile pic. Not sure if this has been shared previously, but I enjoyed this YT mini-docmentary of Iommi and guitar work. The Tony Iommi and Brian May jam is worth the price of admission alone.

    Tower Of Power Vs. Chicago

Being a Trombone Player in High School and College, my choice had to be Chicago. In fact, I'd list James Pankow as in my Top 10 Rock heros in the 1970's. But behind Jimmy Page of course.

My compliments to the CRF members for their knowledge. I considered myself a pretty astute student of Classic Rock, but I am seeing all kind of bands that I didn't know existed. I might be over my head here. :blush2:
