I saw the movie at the theatre (Yelllow Submarine too) as a 12 year old kid at the time, and I bet I teared up a bit. And at the time, I probably thought this was the end of Rock and Roll as we knew it.

Classic Rock Album of the Day- Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band- Against the Wind. (1980) **** 1/2
I had friends in the day, who claimed Bob Seger was the one man wrecking crew who countered Disco as a happy warrior. Yes, there were others in that 1975-'80 timeframe that swiped some radio...
Doc Wu's right. List is subjective. I guess most on the list has at least some level of claim of being "early-metal". Def Leopard is the one I would say has the least cred in that category. To me they are much more in the Glam/AOR genre .
Don't get me wrong... Love the band, but pigeon...

Several pages ago, I coined the phrase Van Halen Factor (VHF). That is or was bands that the listener was better off buying one of a few or several compliaton albums instead of any given one...
I really wouldn't really call Styx the equivalency of Yes. Especially when you consider the shit they made the last 1/2 of their career, while Yes remained consistent. Nor was Styx remotely Prog post 1978 either.
And even taking the best 3 of each band. CTTE, Yes Album, Fragile versus...
