I don't pretend to be an expert on Rock, but I am flabbergasted, that I have never heard of Rockpalast. And to be at it for almost 50 years? That's bad ass.
Back in the day, my favorite format was ABC's "In Concert". Midnight Special was too slick and contrived for my tastes.

Classic Rock Album of the Day- The Ramones- Self Titled (1976). **** 1/2
One of the most interesting aspects of rock music has been its ability to morph when the formula gets tired, diluted, or over served Here's a brief and loose synopsis of its history up to todays example:
Rockabilly...

Classic Rock Album of the Day- Dire Straits- Making Movies- 1980 ****
Was introduced to this album by USA Network Nightflight as kind of a pre-MTV episode, as a trio of semi-themed suite of videos. Not only were those prehistoric videos done beautifully and artfully, Knopler shot the wad with...

Classic Rock Album of the Day- The Who- Who's Next (1971) *****
Outside the Beatles, The Who by far is the most profilic and talented songwriters and hitmakers that came out of the Brittish invasion. In overall longevity, as far as musically they outlasted their biggest competitors, the...
Excellent comments. On this review, I was afraid the that fuzzy line of "prog" might be breached a bit. With the strong prog structure, I kind of wonder if it is more of a rocking concept album instead.
And to the point of comment of rating. I actually wrote this a few years ago, and at...

Classic Rock Album of the Day- Golden Earring - Moontan (1973) *** 1/2
I might get some gripes from some Kraftwerk fans, but this fare from Golden Earring in 1973 is IMO the greatest rock album made outside the Anglosphere (United States- U.K.- Canada-Australia) I've been wanting to share it...
Dream Theatre is one of the better bands that are still out there ( I guess they are still writing). Any band that can recreate Rush and Queen at this level perfection has my absolute respect.
You bring up some good points about the genre-bending, and how some bands are pigeon holed more on chronological setting than the music itself.
One of my favorite examples was back in the late '70's when a Music Magazine interviewer twice asked Tom Petty about his punk music, and his punk...

Classic Rock Album of the Day- Bush- Sixteen Stone (1994) ***
In the area of new music phenomenon the process follows a hiearchial pyramid. Level 1 are the ground breakers and hit grinders, and the bands that first come to mind when discussing that genre. That normally covers 1-3 bands of...
