Some more great heavy blues-rock with Welsh band Budgie - Hammer and Tongs...one of my fave songs of theirs...Saw Budgie way back in the early 80's in Liverpool, UK when they were the support act to Gillan ( Ian Gillan ) it was one of those concerts where the support band were just as good as...
The Edgar Broughton Band - Look at the Mayor ( live ),,Some pretty heavy blues rock here.,love the guitar in the 2nd part of this, its as guttural as you can get...I wasn't a massive fan of the band but some of their stuff i sometimes give a listen to..
i saw Lizzy four times, three times in Liverpool, UK and the final time i saw them was their last ever UK performance before they disbanded when they headlined at the legendary Reading Rock Festival in 1983, that was an emotional night when they performed 'Still in Love With You,'...The year...
Lizzy on their Opium Trail - live in Toronto 1977...this track really should have made it on to their Live and Dangerous album, cannot believe that they omitted it.
Thin Lizzy - Ballad of a Hard Man....a real gem of a Lizzy tune...this is what the band were all about for me, that hard drivin', hard pumping rock..Phil blasting out the vocals and with the brilliant Robbo on guitar, wailing like a complete maniac in the second part of the song, SUPERB!
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak....on the steps of the Sydney Opera House in 1978...Gary Moore in the band here after the departure of Robbo...and Mark Nauseef on drums, Lizzy drummer Brian Downey took a few months off coz of exhaustion and Nauseef filled in for him on Lizzy's tour down under.
Thin Lizzy - The Rocker....brilliant lyrics from Phil, and Eric Bell's guitar solo is MINDBLOWING...one of the greatest ever 70's hard rock guitar solo's for me.
Phil Lynott with Mark Knopfler - King's Call.....Phil wrote this excellent tune in tribute to one of his hero's Elvis Presley....quite a fitting tribute to Phil too...
Exactly 40 years ago now since Phil left us....4th Jan 1986 being the day that he passed...He was superb was Phil, he was The Rocker, great frontman in a brilliant band that influenced so many....Fondly remembered...Long live Lizzy!
Alex Harvey a couple of years before The Sensational Alex Harvey Band started up....He put out an album titled 'Roman Wall Blues' and this cover of this Rolling Stones classic appeared on the album.
some very very early Alex Harvey, long before he became sensational. this from a 1964 album he put out, with his brother Les featuring on the album..Les died in 1972 when he was electrocuted on stage after touching a microphone that hadn't been earthed...this track is a cover of Jimmie Rodger's...
some great blues rock from The Sensational Alex Harvey Band...this track being the title track of their 1972 debut album..Absolutely loved their first 2 albums, Framed ( 1972 ) and Next ( 1973 )
too many to mention....but if i were to pick a few out for starters then i would include some of those early ZZ Top albums, some of those Free and Bad Company albums,,i could go on and on and on..lol
