Machine Head was without doubt Deep Purple's finest studio album although Burn by MkIII Purple comes a close second in my opinion.

Yeah, that is up there for me but if I could choose a top three it'd go

1. Machine Head
2. In Rock
3. Fireball

But the MkIII had plenty of great albums like Burn of course, Stormbringer, Who Do We Think We Are, Come Taste The Band, etc.

Just a very consistent band, in general. Some albums get the L from me though..

I would go along with Machine Head & Burn but I have always had a liking for Who Do We Think We Are although it was often regarded as a 'weak' album by many coming after Machine Head. Many Deep Purple fans would claim there best album was Deep Purple In Rock and it was a seminal album but I have to be in the right mood to listen to 'In Rock' as it's a bit on the loud side and in ya face!!. Ha ha ha... ;)

With regards to Stormbringer I like the album quite a lot athough back in the mid/late 1970s it was a confusing album?. Stormbringer the song was great then it went funky after that with the exception of Lady Double Dealer and Highball Shooter but Soldier of Fortune was a good song and I also got to like Gypsy as well in later years.

Good debate here and depends on me mood- Shades and Come Taste The Band are often on my hit-list..'73 which was pretty much my youth purchases. Who Do We Think...was all conquering...but Perfect Strangers is still up there. Made In Japan my least listened to these days ( sorry!)
